GOLD FOR KATE VEALE AND SILVER FOR LUCY HOLMES AT IRISH LIFE HEALTH NATIONAL TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS.
The club had five athletes competing last weekend at the Irish life health track and field championships held at Morton stadium in Santry .Kate Veale produced yet another super performance to once again proving she still is currently the countries best female race walker when she captured her 14th National senior race walking title with a time of 24.14. This was her 5th outdoor senior title and her 14 senior crown in total over all distances. Lucy Holmes ran in the ladies 3.000 meters Juniors and ran a great PB of 10.24.71 to take a deserving silver having to battle all the way to the line to claim that second spot, Lucy who will be based at college in Cork for the next few years and will next be in action at the upcoming Munster championships where she will most like drop down in distance to the 1500 meters. Having reached the finals of the 1.500 meters in heat 2 on Friday evening Micheál Power was up against the cream of Irish 1.500 athletes and he acquitted himself admirably running a time of 3.51.20 for 7th in the field of 15 .Just inside his previous best time for the distance. This was another positive step forward for Micheál as he prepares for this September when he heads state side on scholarship to Tulsa University Oklahoma. Pat Hennessey competed over 5.000 meters in the senior men’s and here a field of 15 faced the starters gun this was a step up to new level for Pat running his first national seniors 5k track race and he will have learned a lot from the experience. Pat ran a solid time of 16.27.39.
JOE GOUGH PICKS UP WHERE HE LEFT OFF WITH TWO WORLD LEADS AT NORTHERN MASTERS TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Joe Gough returned to competition last Saturday at the Northern Ireland Masters track and field championships held at the Mary Peters Track. Joe record a double over 65 in the 4 and 800 meters with 2 world leads in both, over 400 he posted a time of 62.13 and shortly after over 800 he clipped around in 2.18.30.A super return to competition for the Mitchell St man.
WATERFORD VIRTUAL MARATHON.
A very well done last Saturday to Joseph O’Rourke and Steve Curran who ran the Waterford Virtual marathon posting a time of 4.13. Also to their training partner Mark Lenihan who joined them for a half marathon which he covered in 2.06. Not a bother to ye boys. !!!!
