27th ANNUAL DOOCEYS BAR BALLYMACARBRY 5 NEXT FRIDAY EVENING.

 

The 27th annual Doocey’s Bar sponsored Ballymacarbry 5 mile road race which is race 4 of the summer programme will be held on next Friday June 28th at 7.30 PM .This race attracts a great crowd and this year again it will be an out and back course along the Nire Road. The entries are online and numbers can be collected at the local Community Hall where showers and changing will also be available. The entry fee is 10 euro online at eventmaster. Entry on the night will be 15 euro. Prizes in the usual categories. Online entry now open at just 10 euro at eventmaster.ie

EUROFINS WATERFORD GREENWAY HALF MARATHON SET FOR AUGUST 31ST

 

 

 

On 31st August  2024 at 9 am West Waterford Athletic Club will host our 6th annual Waterford Greenway Half Marathon.  Once again we are delighted to have local company Eurofins as our title sponsor for this unique event and we thank them for their commitment to this race and to our club. Eurofins Biopharma Product Testing (BPT) based in Dungarvan is a first-class Contract Research Organization (CRO), working with pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device clients. The Group covers the whole chain of drug development thanks to an international network of laboratories and testing units with global reach, uniform QA systems and high quality services. The race course along the Waterford Greenway and in conjunction with Waterford City and County Council is a 13.1 mile race along the now famous old Waterford/Dungarvan Railway line. This fantastic amenity opened officially in 2017 and has already experienced visitors from all over the country and beyond. Users are amazed by this 46 km spectacular off-road cycling and walking trail along an old railway line between Waterford and Dungarvan. WEST WATERFORD ATHLETES AT TRACK AND FIELD LIVE.

 

A Track and Field Live event was held last Wednesday evening at the new Clonmel Sports Hub track and very good size fields participated in most events. Included in the p[programme was a men’s mile race and the club had 3 athletes who competed. The race was won by Sean Tobin Clonmel AC in a time of 4.06.98 with West Waterford’s Naoise Mac Murchadha running a very solid race top take the runners up spot in a time of 4.42.15,Mark Blackwell finished 6th in a time of 4.48.31 and Gary Cantwell was 7th in 4.54.00.Well done to all three and it’s great to see our members supporting and  running these type of meets. 

 

PADDY BRUNNOCK COMPLETES HIS 2ND TRALEE 100K ULTRA.

 

The Tralee 100K Ultra Marathon was held last Saturday, a race which is regarded as one of Ireland’s greatest tests of endurance.The course is 10 loops of a 10km loop in Tralee, starting from outside the Aquadome with a 6 am starting time. Club member Paddy Brunnock was in the field for the second year in succession and just like his first outing at this event he again had an outstanding run to complete the 100k in a time of 11.41.Very well done to Paddy and Moylan and Barry the all-important crew members.

 

CZECHIA CLAIM FINAL OLYMPIC SPOT.

 

The final trial race for the final team place for this summer’s Paris Olympics was held last Saturday at Morton stadium Santry Dublin with 8 teams competing, one of the 8 teams included club member Kate Veale and Finn Valley AC’s Brendan Boyce who were unsuccessful some weeks back in Turkey at the world cup of race walking when Brendan picked un an injury which prevent the team from completing the course, however they did have a last chance today but it wasn’t to be for the pair as they finished 6th with an outstanding performance from team Czechia who were superb on the day coming home clear winners in an excellent time of 3.02.09  and they will now represent their country in Paris where we wish them nothing but the best of luck .Kate and Brendan battled hard competing the marathon distance in a time of 3.13.34 with Kenya Greece and Kazakhstan ahead of them, Kate will next race in the shorter 5k distance next Saturday at the 123.ie National senior track and field championships again in Santry. 123.ie National senior track and field championships again in Santry.There was also a masters 3k event as part of the day’s proceedings and here club member John Laste completed the distance in a time of 17.55, well done to John and Kate.

 

DONOUGHMORE 7.

The Donoughmore 7 mile road race was held Friday evening and 215 competed on the day with overall winner Barry Twohig St.Finbarrs AC in a time of 37.70 the ladies winner was Lorna Wolfe Leevale ASC with a time of 44.25,club member Patricja Daly ran a time of 1.03.51, well done to her.

 

BIOFREEZE IRISH RUNNER 5 MILE.

 

1658 athletes ran last Sundays Biofreeze Irish runner 5 mile road race held in the Phoenix Park Dublin.The event was race 2 of the Biofreeze Race Series,the  Irish Runner 5k, Biofreeze Irish Runner 5 Mile, and Biofreeze Irish Runner 10 Mile.All three races are also the national road championships over the 3 distances. Overall race winner was Kieran Kelly Raheny Shamrocks AC in a time of 24.11 and the first lady home was Ciara Wilson DMP AC in 27.24 finishing 30th overall.The club had two athletes who made trip and both ran well, Evan Fitzgerald clocked an impressive 25.02 to finish 4th and just miss out on the bronze national medal also Mark Radley clocked a time of 30.23 to finish 7th in the over 45 age category. Very well done to both.

 

 

THE WATERFORD VIKING.

 

The Viking race event took place in the city last Sunday with a small field of 309 running the full marathon with the overall win going to Alexander Wallace  St.Coca’s AC 2.26.49 and the overall ladies marathon winner was Beth O’Connor IND in a time of  3.14.19.For the club Stephanie Ilsley was 7th in the ladies section of the full marathon and won her age category with a splendid time of 3.42.47. Mick Concannon was 3rd in the over 60 age category with a time of 3.51.57 and the Beatty pairing of Bernard and his wife Anita also ran the full marathon with a finishing time of 4.42.12.accreditited to both.

In the half marathon event a field of 1226 ran Pat Fitzgerald Waterford AC took the spoils here in a time of 1.14.09 and Linda Grogan Dundrum AC won then ladies in 1.25.49, the club story sees a good number ran here with our first runner home in 15th  place was Garry Cantwell 1.21.16 and in 26th spot came John Coffey 1.25.16.Our first lady across the line was in 19th place Sandra Flynn 1.40.12 with Ann Moore next finishing  26th 1.43.06

The Quarter marathon saw a field of 1.136 running and overall winner was Andrew Connick Ferrybank AC 33.06 with Kealey Tideswell Clonmel AC taking the ladies in 35.54. the club had a large number running here also with Grainne Moore leading the pack as 6th lady home and 3rd in her category in 42.05,Alice Fitzgerald ran a time of 52.50 to finish 3rd in her age category our fits male finisher was Jim O’Brien in 54.31.
