FORDES DAY BREAK WINTER LEAGUE.

TWO FASTEST TIMES RECORDED WEDNESDAY EVENING ON THE LONG COURSE.

After a horrible night the previous week, last Wednesday evening was a little cold but ideal for round 9, a dry cold night with no wind, so much so that the two fastest times recorded to date in the league were recorded Wednesday night for both male and female participants. We had a mass start last week because the hall wasn’t available to us, so the short course went off first and 3 minutes later the long course runners were got underway. It was a very notable night for the league as both the men’s and ladies best times to data in the current winter league were recordedMick Ahearne became the first runner to break the magic 30 minute barrier when he recorded brilliants 29:35 and likewise the fastest lady was Kate Veale who recorded a super time of 32.20 to not alone run the fastest female time in the current league but to our knowledge it was a course record into the bargain for this current winter league route. Outstanding performances by both. Just to also mention the run by  John Gleeson an up and coming young jockey from the Ardmore area, John uses the Wednesday night league as part of his strict training regime and he clipped around last night in a time of 30:47,remember the name.

 LONG ROUTE OVERALL

The tables are starting to show a clearer picture now with 2 weeks remaining on the long course and the current leader is Linda Foley on 1410 but of course with two rounds remaining this is still a slender lead with Richie Fitzgerald lurking closely by on 1362 points in 3rd place is Jack Ahearne with 1345 and our next lady who is still in with a big shout in Tara Ni Reachtagain with 1331 points and in 5th we have Tom Hogan on 1297 and certainly not out of the hunt either. All in all very hard to call it yet best of luck to all. Just like division 1 the other 10 divisions are so close its impossible to call them with only a point or two separating our top 3 in most cases but all the divisions could take a big turn in affairs yet.
