NEW CASH BONUS FOR FAST TIMES AT THE AHS TUNING IRELAND 9th ANNUAL BALLINROAD 5K

 

 

Our first race in the clubs summer road race programme for 2024 will get underway with the AHS Tuning Ireland sponsored Ballinroad 5k on Friday May 10th at 7.30 pm.Firstly our sincere thanks to John Coleman of AHS for his continued sponsorship of this race which he has sponsored for the past 9 years. John operates a very successful car tuning company from his premises out on Coolagh road., Abbeyside. This year once again we are delighted to be able to help and support the local community in Ballinroad as the local soccer club Ballinroad A.F.C. will be the benefactors of the race, with monies donated towards the club’s underage teams. The race will incorporate a fun run/walk with proceeds from them going towards the clubs fund . Starting at 7.30 pm with Ballinroad Soccer club as the race H. Q. A huge turnout is expected if previous year’s is anything to go by as we deem the race to be the fastest flattest 5k course around. As you know in West Waterford AC we like to cater for all and have different prize structures in all our races, for the Ballinroad race we will have prizes for the top 5 men and women with lots and lots of spots for down the field finishers. Through the generosity of our sponsor we will this year be offering a cash performance bonus for both men and women,100 euro is an the added offer to the first Male to break 14.50 and the same to the first Female to who can break 17.00. The entry fee is 10 euro pre entry online. (15 euro on race night). The course chosen for the race is an excellent out and back course which is very flat so if it’s your first attempt at the 5k distance or you’re looking for a fast time on a flat- fast course this is your opportunity to shine. CELEBRATING OUR 30TH YEAR OF SUMMER RACING.

We are delighted to announce our Summer Schedule of races 2024 starting in Ballinroad with our very popular 5k race on May 10th and finishing in Ballinameela on the 19th July in another very popular 5k route .As it is our 30th year we are celebrating in style where all participants can take home our very nice running singlet specially designed denoting our 30th year, A once off very nice piece of running apparel which will become a collector’s item in years to come. This is a unique opportunity to enter all 6 races in advance and just turn up on the night to each race and run!  So get your entries in quickly and be ready for a super summer of racing once more. We are all looking forward to getting our summer programme underway and we hope to see all the old familiar faces and many new ones in the coming months. You can now enter all 6 races 60 Euro which is brilliant value or you can enter 5 of the races individually for 10 euro per race online. Individual race entries will open two weeks before each race. The Dromana 5 mile this year is celebrating its 30th edition, so thanks to our sponsors of 30 years Dungarvan Leader we will be distributing a very nice Nike yes Nike running Tee Shirt to all participants who complete the run on the night. The fee for this race will be covered if you have enter all the series for 60 euro and if not it will be 15 online entry and 20 euro on race night.

WEEK 3 OF MARK MASON FINANCIAL SERVICES COLLIGAN SPRING RUNNING LEAGUE.

 

 

Round 3 of the Mark Mason Financial Services Colligan Spring League took place last Wednesday evening in the beautiful surround of Colligan wood on what was, once again, a perfect evening for running.  The league starts each night at 6.30. The league is held over 5 nights and to be included in the tables you need to run 4 out of the 5 nights league will continue for the next 2 Wednesday evenings ( May 1st th and finally May 8th ) so no excuses folks why not come along and give it a go for yourself if you missed the first few evening, you can still join, just come along to the wooden bridge around 6.15  and we will get you started.

 

 

SEAN KEARNEY HITS THE GROUND RUNNING ON 2 LAP COURSE.

 

A great number of 27 runners compete last week over the 2 lap course and the Ladies dominated with 22 taking part and 5 gents,That said it was a male who was first home when Sean Kearney running his very first round of the league fished in 22.06 with no less that 10 Ladies behind Claire O’Sullivan is improving week on week and she finished 2nd in 23.52 ahead f Carol Walsh 24.04 filling 3rd sport.Micheál Moynihan was second male finisher in a time of 26.59 with Martin Collender enjoying the surrounds of Colligan having ran all rounds to date clocking a time of 32.31Well done to the participants of the 2 lap league. Keep up the efforts for the next 2 weeks.

 

 

 

3 MILE FLAT WIN FOR ROTY FITZGERALD.

 

Last week on the 3 lap mile flat route we had another healthy number 21 participants again here the Ladies slightly outnumbered the men with 11 Ladies and 10 men participating. The Men here dominate the top 3 finishing positions on the night as they were led home once again last week by Rory Fitzgerald in an excellent time of 26.49 with Emilya Moya Rosa 29.30 filling 2nf place and 3rd home was  Mick Concannon 29.51, leading the ladies last week was 4 Tara Ni Rheachtagáin who is getting very close to breaking the 30 minute barrier and last week clocked time of 30.22, so it is only a matter of time .Special mention last week to Michael Cummins who improved again to a time of 37.17,Brilliant stuff from Michael keep up the great work.Well done to all keep it going now lads for the remaining nights.

 

 

 

NIXON HOLDS OFF COADE ON 5 MILES HILL COURSE.

 

 

We had a great entry of 48 runners taking on the trail run in Colligan this week and first home just like the week one and he was first on week 2 David Nixon was back to winning ways when holding off the fast finishing James Code to take first place in a time of 35.00 with James recording a time of 35.24 for the runners up spot, third on the trail last week was Mark Walsh in 36.09 Diane Behan was under the 40 minute barrier recording a time of 39.37, excellent running on this course, The chatting trio of  Eveleen Drohan 42.00 Angela Tobin 42.00 and  Linda Foley 42.01 kept the conversation going as they took the hill sections in their stride.Well done to all who took on this tough course – no doubt you will see the benefits of this tough running as the year goes on and we get into the summer race programme.

3.390 EURO RAISED AT 10TH ANNUAL AGLISH FUN RUN/WALK IN AID OF CHILDRENS HOPSPITAL CRUMLIN.

 

The 10th Aglish fun run walk in aid of the children’s hospital Crumlin was held on Easter Monday,It was great to see another great turnout on the bank holiday Monday once again for this great cause, after a good start weather wise it got damp towards the end of the event but this didn’t deter  a great turnout of runners and walkers all helping to raise 3.390 euro for this most worthy cause, very well done to all who supported the event and well done to organiser Liam O’Donnell who had everything running smoothly on the day as usual, we are looking forward to the 11th edition next year.

 

SPLASHWORLD 10K.

 

In Tramore last Saturday the Splashworld 5K and 10 km Road Races took place organised by Tramore AC and a  total of 270 finished .First home in the 10 k race was Pat Fitzgerald Waterford AC in 33.59. First lady was Kealey Tideswell Clonmel 4th overall in 35.39, In the 5 km Eugene O’Keeffe Carrick on Suir was first home in 18.59. First lady was Ciara Rohan Waterford AC in 19.44. West Waterford AC was well represented at the event and in the 10k where 210 ran our first man home was John Coffey in a time of 37.05 for 11th place overall and he was 2ND in the over 40 category while Eoin Walsh was also 2nd in the over 50 category running a time of 41.12,, our first Lady was Eveleen Drohan in 41.25 and she was a brilliant 3rd lady overall, Onra Power was 3rd in the over 50 category with a time of 53.10. In the 5k event where 79 competed the Hynds both finished on the same time Louise and Jamie  in 10th and 11th place in a time of 23.41 and Carol Tobin ran a time for 39.59.Well done to our prize winners and all who ran on the night.

GOLD FOR ANGELINA SILVER FOR YEV.

Very well done to father and daughter Yev and Angelina Chizhikova at day 1 of the country track and field championships held at the RSC arena last Sunday , Angelina took gold in the Junior Ladies 400 meters and Yev silver in the senior mens 1.500 meters.
