Bronze Medal with Irish Team for Noah Commins at Schools International Cross Country
The annual Schools International Cross Country between England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales was held in Liverpool on Saturday last. Noah Commins West Waterford AC and St Augustine’s College was a member of the eight man Irish team that competed in the junior boys race over 4100m. This was Noah’s first taste of International competition and the first time he raced over 4000m. The course was flat and wound through the parkland of Sefton Park. Thirty two runners representing the best of the four countries took to the start line. The pace was very fast from the start and dominated by a very strong Scottish and English group. At the end of the first lap Noah found himself in 22nd place amongst a group of Irish and Welsh runners. Over the course of the second lap he moved steadily through the field and finished in 15th place holding off a strong charge from both Scottish and Welsh athletes in the sprint for the finish. Noah Watt the Irish Champion was the first Irish athlete home in 11th with the Munster Champion Kevin Finn in 13th place and Noah just two place behind in 15th. England won the team prize with Scotland second and Ireland third. Well done Noah on securing your first international medal. The race can be viewed on YouTube under SIAB Cross Country 2023.
First Week Back at Training
We had a very good turnout for our first week back at training this week and hope to see even more of you back this week on Wed and Fri @6pm in the Friary.

County Championships
The Waterford Track and Field Championships will be held over two days
Sunday April 23rd and Sunday May 7th. All our young athletes should be aiming to take part in these events. I will post the programme of events as soon as I have it.
