First All Ireland Medal for Jarlath Hurney
Competing in his first All Ireland last Sunday Jarlath Hurney showed what a tough competitor he was pulling out all the stops in the final round of the under 12 shot he threw over nine metres for the first time added almost a metre to his personal best and secured a bronze medal in the process. He opened his competition with a throw of 8.61 which was close to his personal best and left him in 4th place after the initial three rounds. But he saved the best till last and his throw of 9m.63 in the last round was enough to secure him his first All Ireland medal. Later in the day Jarlath competed in the 60m sprint and qualified through to the final where he finished 6th.
