30TH ANNUAL FORDE’S DAYBREAK WINTER LEAGUE.

 

 

 

 

With the summer road racing scene now behind us and our very successful half marathon completed recently the evening light is drawing in so this time of year our thoughts start turning towards the club’s annual winter league event and this coming winter league see’s it entering its 30th year. The club committee have been working away behind the scenes in organising this year’s event and are delighted to say that Forde’s Daybreak on the Youghal Road have committed once again to sponsoring this great event for the coming league term.  Registration night this year will be on Wednesday November 6th.The following week the league will begin officially on November 13th. We will provide more information in the coming weeks but for now all you need do is pencil the date into your diary.

 

 

 

PLANS WELL IN PLACE FOR CLUBS 30TH ANNUAL FORDE’S DAYBREAK WINTER LEAGUE .

 

 

 

 The clubs winter league which now enters its 30th year will begin in November.  This year the number collection night will take place on the Wednesday November 6th where you can register for this year’s league and we can answer any questions you may have and we will also explain the rules and regulations of the league as well as the two courses of the league .The first official night of the league will be the following week November 13th. For all those that won’t be able to make it to the sports centre on the first night of number collection, you may get your number on the following night. In fact, it’s possible to join the winter league at any stage throughout the course of the league. Winter league payment is  a once off payment,with club members paying 35 euro (this includes the 5 euro once off number payment) and for non-members you can pay a once off payment of 40 euro which also includes the 5 euro number payment charge. This amount will cover you for the full duration of the league.

 

 

FORDES DAYBREAK WINTER LEAGUE POINTERS.

The Fordes Daybreak Winter League will once again take place from the Sports Centre, Quanns Dungarvan for 11 Wednesday nights commencing on Wed 13th November.  We will continue for 6 nights before Christmas bringing  us up to Wednesday 18th December.

 

After Christmas we will return on 2nd January ( reverting back to Wednesdays the following week) and continue for 5 nights with our final night on the 29th  January.

 

Number pick up will take place at the Sports Centre Dungarvan on Wednesday 6th November at 6.30pm or on first night of the league from 6.15pm.

 

We hope you will join us again for this annual event and if you haven’t been with us before we guarantee you won’t be disappointed.  It’s an 11 week challenge that can maintain your fitness over the winter and start 2025 on a high note.

 

As usual there are 2 options to choose from.  The first is the “long” route which is 5.2 miles while the second choice is the “short” route and the distance here is approx 2.5 miles.  Both routes start and finish at the Sports Centre, Quanns.  

 

No High Vis, No Run.  We will not allow any runner take part who doesn’t wear a high vis.  No exceptions.  It has to be a high vis not a luminous t-shirt.

No watches allowed or No Headphones.  This is a very strict rule of this event. We will publish your time asap after the run. Your aim each week will be to run the time you ran the week before or if possible a little faster.

Stewards must be obeyed at all times.  Your participation in this event is an indicator of your compliance with this rule.

Rules of the road apply. You must run on the footpath at all times when available and only cross the road at designated points where stewards will direct you.

 

YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE LEAGUE INDICATES THAT YOU AGREE TO ABIDE BY THE ABOVE RULES

 

Our mission is to introduce as many people as possible to running/jogging.  We don’t care how fast or slow you are we just want you to enjoy the league and see the benefits of running for yourself. 

 

BE SAFE BE SEEN

It’s that time of the year again when we must remind all those out running on the road to wear a reflective bib, also most important is to wear bright coloured clothing, remember you can see that car but can the driver of that car see you it’s a simple motto, be safe be seen.

 

CROSS COUNTRY SEASON IS HERE.

 

The cross country season is about to kick off and it is again a very busy time of year for our club. The county championship season starts off with the Seniors and Juniors at St Augustine’s college ion Sunday September 29th, here to hope to have a full Ladies and Men’s squads competing. This is not a pre-registered event so you pay on the day 5 euro. The annual St Senans open cross country will be held on Sunday 22nd September if anyone fancies a run out before the counties.

DOUBLE FOR WEST WATERFORD’S FITZGERALD AND VEALE.

 

The Gowran AC promoted 4 mile road race was held last Friday evening on a good evening for the field of 96 finishers. The race also incorporated the Kilkenny Novice road championship’s for 2024.The club was represented at the race by 2 athletes who made a big impact on the event, with Evan Fitzgerald taking the overall race win in a time of 19.48 and likewise Kate Veale took the Ladies title with a time of 25.39.Congratulatioons and well done to both Evan and Kate.

 

WEST WATERFORD ATHLETES RUN ALPINE MARATHON .

Regarded as the most beautiful marathon in the world, the Junefraun marathon on the Swiss Alps was held last Saturday and three West Waterford athletes ran the Marathon .It is a mountain marathon with over 1800m of climbing and 4.000 ran the event. Paul Kennedy ran a time of 4. 32 for 237th place Husband and wife team of Ann and David Moore both finished together in 5. 34 .well done to all.

 

GARY 6TH IN DINGLE MARATHON.

 

Club member Gary Cantwell ran the Dingle marathon last Saturday which was held in very warm conditions. Gary had a great run to finish 6th overall with a time of 3.00.07 which was so close to breaking the magic 3 hour barrier. Well done Gary.

 

MICK COMPLETES TALLINN MARATHON.

Club member Mick Concannon was once again on his marathon travels this weekend when he ran and completed the Tallinn Marathon in Estonia.In and around the beautiful city and held on a very flat course with ideal temperatures of 25 degrees and sunny Mick crossed the finish line in a time of  3.51.26.Well done Mick.

 

KATE RUNNERUP IN JERRY KIERNAN FOUNDATION CROSS COUNTRY.

 

Club member Kate Veale was at the national campus Abbotstown for the Jerry Kiernan foundation cross country race last Sunday morning which was held on the national cross country course. The overall men’s winner was John Travers with Breffnie  Kelly winning the Ladies race,Kate was 2nd lady home, the former under 18 national cross country champion proving she can still mix it over the cross terrain. Well done Kate.

 

VERY PINK RUN.

The very pink run races were held this weekend in venues around the country and one such race was held in Cahir Co. Tipperary.All proceeds from the races were donated to breast cancer Ireland . A group of our female club runners participated in the 5 k and 10 k distances and a great day was had by all.
