2.500 EURO DONATED TO RAPID RESPONSE VEHICLE FUND AT EUROFINS WATERFORD GREENWAY HALF MARATHON.
Summer finally arrived last Saturday for our 5th Annual Eurofins Waterford Greenway half marathon which was hosted by our, conditions were ideal for the event with summer sunshine and no winds which all helped to showcased the magnificent Greenway facility at its very best. The event which is growing year on year and it was great to see the wide number of club represented in the race with runners from all corners of the country taking part . The Eurofins half marathon is a unique event and the only one of its kind in the country, proof of this this year we saw the largest number of finishers to date in the event which we are delighted with 665 finishers crossed the finish line in Ballinroad the largest number of finishers ever, having made their way towards the coast line from the starting point near the Coach House in Kilmacthomas.A huge thank you to all who came along from near and far to participate and we hope each and every one of you enjoyed our great race and facility and that you might return with your families in the not to distance future for a longer stay among us here in Dungarvan.A huge thank you to you the runners who donated to this year’s chosen charity the Rapid Response Vehicle fund who were represented on the day by Edel Curry who accepted a cheque of 2.500 euro towards their fund.An event like this is one that has to have a huge amount of help from our none running mebers and also from many outside of the club itself so our grateful thanks go to the huge number of stewards all along the 13.1 mile course.Thanks to all our very good friends in Kilmacthomas for their invaluable help and to all those who helped out on our 4 water stations along the course a big thanks to you all. To our chip timing squad myrunresults a very professional job once again, to Ballinroad community hall for the use of the hall for race HQ. To our all our medics a sincere thanks. CONOR O’BRIEN CLAIMS PAUL BRUNNOCK PERPETUAL CUP.
The Paul Brunnock perpetual cup was presented to our deserving race winner Conor O’Brien of Dooneen A.C. a first time runner of the race and a deriving winner on the day.The beautiful trophy remembers one of our most popular members Paul Brunnock who passed to his eternal reward some time ago, our grateful thanks to the Moylan Brunnock and Elaine and Karen Murray who made a huge effort to be here with us on Saturday to came along on the day to present the winner with the cup. Our race winner last Saturday was Conor O’Brien of Dooneen AC in Limerick, finishing in a time of 1 hour 11 minutes flat. This was Conors first ever win in any race and a it also was a 2 minute PB. Conor had to battle hard for the victory however with last year winner of the race Pat Fitzgerald Waterford AC finishing just 10 seconds behind in 1.11.10 and not giving up his crown to easily. Aidan Connell first West Waterford AC runner home was shoulder to shoulder with the two who finished in front of him for much of the race but eventually finished in 3rd spot after a super effort with a great time of 1.11.36 .4th place was filled by Vivian Foley of Eagle AC in 1.11.54 and 5th place was Donal Coakley of Leevale AC. So that was 1 Limerick man followed by 2 Waterford and 2 Cork men making up the top 5.Other club runners to figure among the prizes were Raivis Zakis 2nd over 40. John Hodge 1st over 45.Ray Hahesy 2nd over 60. Anthony Dwyer 1st over 65 and Joe Gough 1st over 70 among others .

KATIE WILSON WINS PAULA COLLINS PERPETUAL CUP.
The Paul Collins perpetual cup was presented to our ladies winner this year in loving memory of Paula who passed to her eternal reward some time ago, Paula was a very well loved member of our club and we give our grateful thanks to the members of the Collins and Nugent family Joe,Lily,and Alex and Sharon who came along to present Paula’s cup to our winner Katie Wilson of DMP AC. On her very first visit to this race Katie was to make it a memorable one as she won the race on her first attempt. The Wexford athlete ran a time of 1.22.25, incidentally her sister Ciara won the race 2 years previously.2nd lady and West Waterford’s first lady home was Kate Veale in a time of 1.27.01,Kate is enjoying her few races as its off season for race walking and she supports as many of our races as she can. Keelie O’Reilly who is based in Bristol ran a very solid half also to take that 3rd spot in a time of 1.28.28 with West Waterfords Angela Tobin who was in flying form and had a fantastic run to finish 4th in a PB time of 1.29.48. Great to get 2 club athletes into the top 5 in the ladies.5th lady home was Jasmin Canning from Drogheda and District AC in 1.30.52.West Waterford athletes had just one category prizes winner Helen Ryan was 2nd over 60.

COLM RYAN MEMORIAL RUN TO AID IRISH CANCER SOCIETY.
Touraneena Runners in association with West Waterford Athletic Club are hosting a Memorial run in memory of the late Colm Ryan on Sunday 15th September starting at 11am in Touraneena.Colm was a champion of the Irish Cancer Society and raised substantial monies for this worthy cause before his untimely passing in April 2023. This 5 k run/walk in his memory will continue this great work with all proceeds from the event donated to the society.
