DUNGARVAN LOURDES INVALID FUND TO BENEFIT FROM WINTER LEAGUE CHARITY NIGHT.
This year’s Christmas charity night at the winter league will take place next Wednesday night 10th December. The chosen charity this year will be the Dungarvan Lourdes Invalid fund which is a local charity in Dungarvan, County Waterford, that raises money to help those with disabilities or who are ill to travel to Lourdes, France. Donations are used to support these trips, which many people would otherwise not be able to afford. The fund is supported by community events like our West Waterford Athletic Club’s winter league charity night and various other local fundraisers. Your generosity is the key to helping this great cause in our community. Please be as generous as you possibly can all donations will be accepted at the league, so please bring a few euro down with you and drop into buckets at sports centre.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.
LONG COURSE RUNNERS HIT THE GROUND RUNNING.
Once again we were blessed with a good dry night for round 4 of the Fordes Daybreak Winter league. It was an ideal evening no wind, no rain and good temperature all rolled into one. We had another bumper turnout of runners participated over both courses. The numbers this year in the long course of the Fordes Daybreak Winter League are as good as we have ever witnessed over its 31 year existence and last week saw 249 on the long course, brilliant numbers. It’s very encouraging for us the organisers to see the turnout for the league, especially this year to see so many new faces and their still signing up each week and all are welcome it’s never too late to make that move.Remember when you arrive in hall make sure to check your start time on the sheets posted on the wall. First home last week was David Moore in a time of 41:07 followed by the only Lady in the top 6 last week Ciara Hannigan with her clocking of 47:28,Gerry O’Connor gave it socks last week and was rewarded with his fastest time this year so far 41:40, Luke Power was next home in a time of 37:25 with Patrick Cumiskey on his shoulder in a time of 53:51 Owen Power broke the 50 minute barrier for 6th place in 49:37.Well done to all who took part, and remember newcomers are always welcome. Just come along to Dungarvan Sports centre on Wednesday Night at 6.30 .
IMPRESSIVE RUNNING OVER THE SHORT COURSE LEAGUE.
The numbers this year in the short course of the Fordes Daybreak Winter League are the best we have ever seen and the big increase in number’s participating in the league this year are in the main on the short course which we are delighted to see as a high percentage of these runners are most likely running the league for the first time and are even in many cases trying out a bit of running for the very first time and this bears witness when you see the number of new faces running the league this year. Once again a great crowd of over 165 runners gathered in Dungarvan Sports Centre before heading out on the 2.3 mile run. First home last week was Paul Murray in a time of 20:36,2nd across the finish line at the sports centre was our first Lady finisher on the night Ashlene Longan 21:59 . Liam Coyle recording a time of 25:48 was next home in 3rd place. Stephanie Dowling was next recording 28:03 with Michelle O Connell hot on her heels in 29:28 and in 6th place was Rachel Power clocking a time of 27:25 . Well done to all who took part, and remember newcomers are always welcome. Just come along to Dungarvan Sports centre on Wednesday Night at 6.30 .

MUNSTER MASTERS CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS.
INDIVIDUAL SILVER FOR ANGELA TOBIN.
MEN TAKE TEAM GOLD.
The Munster Juvenile relays and Masters cross country championships were held last Sunday on a well laid out course in Tramore ,Hosted by Tramore AC on behalf of the Waterford country board all are to be congratulated on a very well organised Juvenile relays and Masters championships for 2025.The club had juvenile relay teams in almost all age categories and two teams in some ages. In the masters races West Waterford AC had a full men’s over 35 team competing on the day, and in the Ladies we had one athlete competing and that was Angela Tobin. Angela had a brilliant individual run when she finished with silver in the over 35 category behind Carol Molloy Fethard AC who took the gold and Lisa Quinlan Moyne AC took the bronze. Great results for Angela and just rewards for the work she has put into her racing this year. Tramore AC ladies team took bronze medals here. In the men’s race the club also saw great results when our men’s over 35 team brought home the gold with a great team effort. It was a good days running by our masters as we know in cross country racing the last man home for you team is as important for team points as your first athlete home and all battled well with this in mind . West Waterford AC finished on 90 points with silver going to near neighbours Carrick On Suir on 121 points and another Waterford club and host event club Tramore AC taking the bronze with 169 points.First man home was Raivis Zakis our team captain who finished 13th overall leading by example, next and only 2 places behind was Philip Harty in 15th place, its not today or yesterday since we had Philip running in the club singlet great to see him back running so well. Third man home was Padraig Healy in 21st place, Padraig was instrumental in putting the team together for the race and its just goes to show if you get these teams to the start line success can and will come your way. Our 4th scorning team member was Mossie Keogh 41st, Mossie had a brilliant run and always when called upon for a club team he obliged even after running the Waterford half marathon the previous day. Raivis,Philip and Padraig also counted on the Waterford county team along with Tramore’s Paul Ogle to take county bronze medals. As mentioned every team member is important when it comes to team racing and we must thank Aidan Ryan running in a club team over cross country for the first time fitting in very well giving it his all along with Yev Chizhokov who was next home a man who will never leave the club down when called upon for a team,David Mc Nally another great club athlete who will always don the singlet when called upon . All in all a great days cross country running at Munster level for the club.
