27th ANNUAL FORDE’S DAYBREAK WINTER LEAGUE.

WEEKLY IMPROVEMNETS FROM LONG COURSE RUNNERS.

Another big turnout of runners were in action last Wednesday as the Fordes Daybreak winter league continued with week 3 . Its plain to see by the times now being recorded on week 3 that the regular league runners are starting to up the ante with some having knocked off minutes from the first outing at the league 3 weeks ago. We were blessed with the weather once again as the earlier rain had cleared leaving a good night overhead.Mick Ahern was the man of the moment last week as he lead the long course runners home in a time of 34.03,he was followed in by Raivis Zakis who was running for the first time in the current league and he recorded the fastest time of the night  with a time of 29.23, our 3rd man to finish last week recording a time of 36.58  for 5th place was Tomas De Faoite in 36.58. Our first lady finisher last week was Candy Morley finishing 9th overall in 52.39 and 2nd lady home was Darina Shanley with a finishing time of 40.24. Third finisher was Laura Regan in 47.11.We have 3 nights completed now but remember we still have another 3 nights to go before Christmas so if you think this might be for you why not register online and just turn up any Wednesday evening at Dungarvan sports centre and give it a try, you will be glad you did. Well done to all who ran the 5.2 miles and remember keep up your running over the next few weeks, clock starts at 6.50 pm sharp each Wednesday so check out your starting time on our club face book page the day before. Just a quick reminder to all our runners to be careful out on the course and obey the stewards at all times. REMEMBER THAT THE ROADS ARE NOT CLOSED SO BE CAREFUL OF TRAFFIC. For safety, high vis must be worn. Also the rules of the league prohibit the wearing of watches. Anyone not wearing high vis or that is caught wearing a watch won’t be included in the results. Best of luck to all tonight and why not bring along a friend.

NUMBERS HOLDING WELL ON WEEK 3 OF THE SHORT COURSE.

It was cold but all in all a nice crisp night for the runners as they gathered at Dungarvan Sports Centre  for week 3 of the Fordes Daybreak winter league before heading out on the 2.4 mile run.  There was a great number out again last Wednesday when 88 runners took up the challenge. It was great to see some new runners that were trying out the league for the very first time. This section of the league specifically has first timers and beginners in mind and is a manageable distance for most as it covers 2.4 miles in total. Again just to remind everyone to check their starting time on club Facebook before coming down each week.First home on the night in week 3 was Kostic Milan in a time of 19.10 followed by Micheál Gee in 19.10 Megan McCarthy was next in 23.31 Fourth home was Lisa Mullally with a clocking of 23.35 followed by Joey Millar 23.36.Well done to all who took part, and remember newcomers are always welcome. Just register online and then come along to Dungarvan Sports centre on Wednesday Night and join in the fun.

Last Sunday was the final day of the Munster Cross Country Championship season in Clarecastle Co Clare. With just the one entry from Waterford in the Masters Championships and that was our own Joe Gough in the 065 age group and he didnt disappoint once again .Holder of the title and despite the close attention of a Cork and Clare athlete all through he ran his race out as always to retain his title decisively. Nelius Ahearne Midleton was second and Tom Mackey Killmurray/ Ibrickane was third, well done Joe on another Munster title to add to the mammoth collection.
