IRISH LIFE HEALTH NATIONAL SENIOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS.

GOLD FOR KATE VEALE IN 5K RACE WALK.

The Irish Life Health National Senior track and field championships were held over two days last weekend Saturday and Sunday and the club had three athletes competing. Held at the famed Morton Stadium, Santry, Dublin it was a very special year as it was celebrating 150 years of the National Championships. The weekend was unfortunately held in weather more akin to winter rather than summer sunshine which never relented over the two days. The club was once again this year represented at the championships when Kate Veale turned out a brilliant solo performance in the 5.000 meters walk taking her 7th national senior outdoor title and her her 17th national senior title in total,an incredible record by any standard.Lucy Holmes competed Saturday over the classic 800 meters and ran excellently well to qualify for Sundays final with the second fastest time 2.14.44 in second place in heat 1 of 2 ,in the final Lucy put in a gallant effort finishing 7 th in a time of  2.15.14. Lucy will take a great amount from these championship and will be running many more 800 meter national finals in the future.Pat Hennessey was in action on Sunday competing in the 5.000 meters which was graded into three races A ,B and C ,Pat was in the C race and here Pat finished 2nd in 15.24.76 after a tough battle in terrible conditions, a great run by Pat who will learn a lot from the championships ,well done to our three athletes who kept the great tradition our club has at these championships alive and well.
