KATE WINS NATIONAL 20K IN TUAM.

At the National 20 km Race Walking Championships in Tuam last weekend Kate Veale had a win in the ladies Championship with a time of 1 hr 49 minutes 7 seconds her 4th successive title. In an open 5km race on the day Natalie Myers a visiting walker competing for WWAC won in a time of 25.59 a PB Well done also to Doirean Hickey who was 2nd in a 3 km race while her sister Eabha was 11th in the 2km

 

 

WEST WATERFORD ATHLETS COMPETE AT TRACK MEET IN CORK.

 

Lucy Holmes and Pat Hennessey were in action Friday evening at MTU track night held at CIT where large numbers competed over all distances. Lucy ran the ladies 3.000 meters and had a solid performance of 10.33.15 finishing 4th while Pat          ran in the A race over 3.000 meters finishing 11th with a time of 9:33.43, both Lucy and Pat compete next weekend at the Nationals in Santry.

 

 

 

OPENING COMPETITON FOR LISA HOULIHAN.

 

Well done to Lisa Houlihan who finished 6th at the AAI games recently competing in the Pole Vault competition with a vault of 2.95.This was Lisa’s first competition since early 2020.

WEST WATERFORD ATHLETIC CLUB SUMMER RUNNING LEAGUE.

Like all clubs we too have had to wait on the side lines due to Covid as group participation in sport was not allowed but now with our club training with Irene back with a few weeks and a very positive response from our members we have decided to go the next step and have a club running league which will start on Thursday June 24th for a period of 6 weeks. Thu 24th June, 1st July, 8th July, 15th July, 22nd July and 29th July at 7pm.Participants will have a Choice 2 or 4 Laps of the Friary grounds. Online entry only on event master STRICTLY no entry on the night. Bring your own water as it will not be supplied. Important that you leave finish area immediately after you complete your run. Spot prizes each night will include running tops and hats.Note: There will be no parking in the College. Please park responsibly on the road outside.

As we start to emerge from a long lockdown we can now plan for an active summer.This is what is on the Menu for summer.Mondays – Outdoor Circuits – If you want to get stronger as a runner and mix up your training come and join us. If you want to get faster over shorter distances or just get back into structured training this is for you. Groups at 6.00 & 6.30pm with pods of different abilities. All you need to do is book in and then turn up. Training within a group is always easier and you will try that little bit harder than you would on your own which will bring results. There is a great social atmosphere within the groups, and everyone is welcome no matter what ability or event you are training for.

 

LETS RUN WITH WEST WATERFORD AC RETURNS.

 

The highly successful West Waterford AC ‘Lets Run’ programme is back with a NEW TUESDAY SESSION. This is a 6-week plan to go from no running to being able to run 5k. Our aim is for everyone to leave each class feeling good and having enjoyed the run.During the 6 weeks you will be guided by our professionally qualified coach, and we will hold your hands through the entire programme so that you can become the runner you do not wish to admit you are. The programme will culminate in everyone being able to run 5k by 4th August. If you have always wanted to run but have never tried it then this is the programme for you. It will be a great challenge for Summer and is also ideal if your fitness has slipped over the lockdowns and you have promised yourself you will get back into a fitness routine before the summer.We do not expect you to be fit but we do need you to be healthy so if you have any health concerns, please get clearance from your GP before you join us.There will be a fun, social atmosphere with no shouting just encouragement and advice to keep you on track. It is a non-intimidating atmosphere and welcoming to all. Some of the comments from previous groups

MARK BLACKWELL NATIONAL JUNIOR 1.500 METERS.

 

Mark Blackwell competed at his very first national junior track championships last Sunday at Morten stadium Santry, Mark has been putting in a tremendous amount of work these past months and his progress has been notable. Sunday he was competing in the 1.500 meters running a time of 4.41.21 Mark will value the experience in this his first competitive outing at this level.

 

IRISH LIFE HEALTH NATIONAL SENIORS TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS WEEKEND.

 

The club has five athletes competing this coming weekend at the national Irish life health track and field championships in Santry, best of luck to all.
