28th ANNUAL DUNGARVAN LEADER DROMANA 5 THIS FRIDAY JUNE 10TH .
Now in its 28th year this very popular race will be held over the same course,the fabulous Dromana Drive from Villerstown to Cappoquin as it has for the past 28 years, we are delighted that our long time sponsors of the race Dungarvan Leader newspaper will continue their sponsorship, our sincere thanks to Billy, John and all at Dungarvan Leader for their ongoing involvement with our club. The race takes place on this Friday June 10th at 7.30 PM. The winning athlete receives the Michael C. Nagle Memorial Trophy and again our thanks to Colm and the Nagle family for their continued support of this race. Please note those taking the bus to the race start in Villierstown from Cappoquin , the bus will be leaving from the GAA pitch are at 6.15 sharp. Race start at 7.30 pm.

CASH BONUS FOR COURSE RECORDS IN DROMANA.
Like all our summer series races The Dromana 5 will also have a cash bonus for the top contenders if the course record for either Male and Female are broken. Our sincere thanks to all at Dungarvan Leader as through their generous sponsorship these course record bonuses are available, there will also be a large array of prizes on offer for the race again this year which will include the 1st 5 men, 1st 2 men’s teams of 3, (Both Men’s and Ladies team prizes are outside of individual prize winners) 1st 5 ladies and 1st 2 ladies team of 3, a €100 bonus will be awarded to the first man to break the course record of 23.49 (set by John Tracey) and another €100 will be awarded to the first lady to break the ladies record of 29.20 (set by Pauline Lambe). The usual spot prizes will also be given out at the presentation to the winners which this year will be held at the Cappoquin Parochial Hall, Mill St, across the road from the finish line and refreshments will be provided for the runners.

MASON FAMILY PERPETUAL CUP TO FIRST LADY FINISHER IN DROMANA 5.
We thank the Mason family Cappoquin who have for many years been huge supporters of the Dromana race. The whole Mason family under the stewardship of Trevor have put a huge amount of work into the event, year in year out and added to the high regard this race is held in by the running community when 9 years ago they introduced the Mason Family perpetual cup which is awarded to the first lady finisher of the race, complementing the Michael C. Nagle trophy which is awarded to the race winner each year. We thank the Mason Family especially Ger and Eileen for their commitment to athletics in the area.

CLOYNE 5 MILE ROAD RACE.
Three West Waterford athletes competed at the Cloyne Co Cork 5 mile road race last Thursday evening and first home was Patrick Beausang in a time of 34.21 next was Mick Concannon 35.42 and Michael Coakley ran a time of 35.42,well done to all three. Michael Harty East Cork Ac won the race in 24.27 and the Lady’s winner was Sharon Rynne 30.11 Kilmurry Ibricken North Clare AC. 123 ran on the night.
DEADMANS 4.
79 competed in 14th Annual Outfields Sports sponsored series which saw race 3 The Deadmans 4 mile road race organised by the Carrick on Suir Road Runners and sponsored by Coughlan’s Careplus Pharmacy. Noel Murphy Waterfrod AC was the winner on the night with a time of 20 minutes 55 seconds. First lady was Dymphna Ryan Dundrum in 23.02. West Waterford AC had a good traveling contingent who made the trip and they were lead home by Jimmy Connors in a good time of 25.37 next was Tom Hogan just behind Jimmy in 25.54 with Johnny Burkin breaking the 29 minute mark in 28.41, first Lady home was Brigid Coffey 31.58 with Andrea Gaffney next in 34.21, Pascal Proctor ran a time of 37.30 with Eamon Curran finishing with 38.03, well done to all.
CORK MARATHON.
The annual Cork city marathon/half /10k and relay were held last Sunday morning and large fields competed in all events. The overall marathon winner was Tim O’Donoghue East Cork AC in a new course record of 2.18.37. The ladies winner was Leevale’s Lizzie Lee in a time of 2.44.54.Our club was well represented at the events with athletes running in all distances, John O’Rourke in an excellent 26th place with a time of 2.47.59 lead home our marathon runners while in the half it was Mick Ahern in 33rd place with a time of 1.18.55. Well done to all on their achievements.
