41ST ANNUAL SHERRY FITZGERALD REYNOLDS DUNGARVAN 10 K.
We couldn’t have asked for a better start for our new Dungarvan 10k sponsorship with Sherry Fitzgerald Reynolds and we hope that we both have a long and fruitful partnership in the years ahead. e had last Friday evening when the largest number of participants for many years ran the 41st edition of the Dungarvan 10k with 200 participants on a night which the organisers and sponsors alike were delighted with. We were very lucky with the weather as the threatening rain stayed away pretty much with just a slight drizzle at times during the race. The 10k was the 5th race in the clubs summer programme which to date with just 1 race renaming has seen brilliant numbers taking part, last year here in the Dungarvan 10k we had a field of 153 so with 200 running Friday night last that’s great to see that the clubs hard work behind the scenes is paying dividends. Our thanks to all those runners who are coming along and supporting this race and all our events again and again as its you the runners who come along keep the local road running scene alive and well, especially this particular race as next year it enters its 41st year. Our sponsor’s David and Geraldine Reynolds who were very supportive on the night and thanks to them for being available on the evening to present the winner’s with their prizes. Our thanks to all our club staff on duty on the day to Jamie Mills and Conor Norris for the huge amount of work on this particular race with road management. We needed a large amount of stewards for this particular race and as always our faithful were called upon and helped out in great numbers. Our thanks also go to those who looked after the teas especially Linda and Karen it was very welcome by all the runners at the club house after the race a job well done .Thanks go to our admin team of Ann Dunford, Tom Leahy, Ray Burke, Declan O’Callaghan, Hannah O’Mahony, Shirley Flynn who looked after the entries and results and finish line and Ann Dunford who once again looked after all the prizes. Thanks to our friends at Dungarvan GAA club especially the help from Tony Ryan for the use of their Club house for the event, thanks to those who did the cleaning up after. Final race in our summer programme will be the 6th annual Old Head Financial sponsored Ballinameela 5 on Friday 18th July at 7.30pm.
SUPER DUPER EVAN FITZGERALD.
Once again for the 5rd race in a row this summer Eva Fitzgerald West Waterford from the gun made the race his very own sprinting away from the field in fact when Evan passed the spring roundabout les than a 1km into the race he was clear of the remainder of the field by a large margin The winning time for Evan last Friday 30.22 was the 2nd fastest time ever ran for this race now in its 41st year with only the course record holder Liam O’Brien Midleton AC ran a time faster of 29.50 way back in 1987 a course record yet to be broken ,however the time Evan recorded was outstanding racing from gun to tape all alone it can only be said brilliance, a super duper performance. Dermot Gorman Carrick On Suir AC took 2nd place in a time of 32.44 which in itself would be a time that would win this race down through the years except for the outstanding Evan last Friday evening was not to be beaten. West Waterford’s Aidan Connell took 3rd place in a time of 33.11, Aidan was our winner in 2024 in this race when he ran a time of 34.46 , so he can be well delighted with a huge time improvement in 2025 despite dropping down a few placing’s in the overall.Turning to the masters where the 0/40 category victory went to Noel Murphy Waterford A.C. 34.49 ,taking the over 45 category was Keith Kelly Youghal AC 35.37,the 0/50 winner was Alan Ryan West Waterford AC 37.17,Alan was of course a former sponsor of this race for many years which we are most grateful for and the over 60 prizes was claimed by Ray Hahesy West Waterford A.C. 41.09, Thsiw as Ray’s 2nd year in succession winning this category, the Junior men’s prize was won by youngster Ronan Smyth Waterford AC 36.36 All excellent category winning times recorded there. West Waterford AC won the team prize with a score of Gearóid Coffey 7th overall another fine run by Gearóid also Alan Gibson 8th and John Coffey 9th giving the team a total of 24 points.
