169 RUNNERS TURN OUT FOR SUCCESSFUL 8th ANNUAL OLD HEAD FINANCIAL BALLINAMEELA 4.
A total of 169 runners took to the roads last Friday evening for the Ballinameela 4 mile, the race distance was changed this year to a new fast 4 mile circuit and the change was met with great feedback form all who participated.The evenings weather was Ideal, calm conditions greeted a top-quality field at the start line, maintaining the strong attendance trends seen across this year’s entire summer series.Event Director Mark Cliffe and his team had the course and local stewards fully prepared for what proved to be a highly competitive evening of road racing. Following the conclusion of the race, Shane Hayes and Sean O’Halloran were on hand to represent the title sponsors and present prizes to the night’s top finishers.West Waterford Athletic Club extends its sincere thanks to Seán and Shane , and all at Old Head Financial for their continued title sponsorship and vital support of this annual event.The smooth running of the race was heavily supported by the local community. The Ballinameela Community Centre committee generously provided the use of the hall, our thanks to the dedicated group of volunteers hosting a fantastic spread of refreshments for all in attendance. Additionally, members of the Ballinameela GAA Club managed the essential logistics of stewarding, marshalling, and event parking.In appreciation of this local support, race organizers presented financial donations on the night to both the Ballinameela Community Hall committee and the Ballinameela GAA Club.Appreciation is also extended to our own West Waterford Athletic Club crew who worked tirelessly on registration, traffic management and results.,, and looks forward to returning to the roads around Ballinameela in 2027.Final summer race will be Friday week Sherry Fitzgerald Reynolds Dungarvan 10k July 17th .

Jack Casey delivered a master class performance to claim victory at last Friday evening’s Ballinameela 4-mile road race .The young K.C.K. A.C. athlete showed a clean pair of heels to the field, storming home to take the title in a brilliant time of 21:18. Mikey Coleman of the host club West Waterford A.C. mounted a strong challenge to secure second place in 21:38, while St Finbarr’s A.C. athlete Michael Corbett rounded off the three on the podium in 21:48.The masters and junior fields produced exceptionally fast times and fierce competition across all age divisions Over 40: Padraig Cullen (Ind) took the top spot with a solid time of 25:33.Over 45 Robert Speer of Clonmel A.C. led his category, crossing the line in 23:42.Over 50 Eugene O’Keeffe represented Carrick on Suir A.C. superbly to win in 23:40.Over 60 Cathal O’Connell of St Finbarr’s A.C. proved age is just a number, clocking an impressive 23:21.Junior Daniel Murphy of Waterford A.C. showed incredible future promise, stopping the clock at a blazing 21:52.Congratulations to all the prize winners and participants who made this year’s race an unforgettable highlight of the summer road racing circuit

Michelle Kenny Leevale AC ,made it back to back wins in our series having won the Ballymacarbry 5 last Friday evening she took her 2nd title in Ballinameela last Friday.The Leevale A.C. athlete was in a class of her own when capturing her second consecutive title in Ballinameela with a winning time of 23:04. Host club West Waterford A.C. enjoyed a brilliant night on home turf, locking down the remaining podium spots as Angela Tobin secured second place in 25:48, closely followed by teammate Kate Veale in third at 25:55.Masters and Junior again West Waterford A.C. dominated the age category prizes, alongside strong performances from visiting club athletes: Over 35 Niamh O’Donovan West Waterford A.C. took the honours in 27:49.Over 40 Natalie Sheehan West Waterford A.C. ran a superb race to win in 26:08.Over 45Deirdre Ansboro travelled from Youghal A.C. to claim the category win in 27:06.Over 50 Andrea Gaffney West Waterford A.C.crossed the line to take the top spot in 32:36.Junior Jessica Grigor capped off a great night for the host club by winning the Junior category in 33:51.A massive well done to all the ladies who ran, cheered, and took home prizes on a fantastic evening of racing! 42nd ANNUAL SHERRY FITZGERALD REYNOLDS DUNGARVAN 10K ON FRIDAY 17th JULY.

The race this year will see the end of our summer programme of races after a little shuffle of dates this year the Dungarvan 10k is now or final outing for the summer .A race now in its the 42nd year the Sherry Fitzgerald Reynolds Dungarvan 10K will take place on Friday evening July 17th at 7.30 pm. 32nd ANNUAL CÉIM AR CHÉIM RÁS NA RINNE FRIDAY JULY 24th.
The 32nd Rás na Rinne will be held on Friday 24th July at 7.30 pm. A great unique route that starts at the Barracks cross, An Rinn, heading downhill to An Coinigéar strand. Participants then head out to the tip of the Coinigéar beach, running on the sand side and returning on the grass side, finishing back at the Barracks cross. A beautiful scenic run in West Waterford that has something for everyone. Race numbers will be available for collection from Halla Pobail na Rinne between 6.15pm and 7.15pm on the evening of the race.Hand carved Criostal na Rinne perpetual trophy (‘Corn Ui Dhroma’) for the overall winner. 8th ANNUAL WATERFORD GREENWAY HALF MARATHON SET FOR AUGUST 29th.

On 29th August 2026 at 9 am West Waterford Athletic Club will host our 8th annual Waterford Greenway Half Marathon .Entries are now open for this event. The race course is along the Waterford Greenway and in conjunction with Waterford City and County Council covering a distance of 13.1 miles along the now famous old Waterford/Dungarvan Railway line. This fantastic amenity opened officially in 2017 and has already experienced visitors from all over the country and beyond. Users are amazed by this 46 km spectacular off-road cycling and walking trail along an old railway line between Waterford and Dungarvan.
