28th ANNUAL CÉIM AR CHÉIM RAS NA RINNE.
The 28th Annual Céim Ar Chéim organised Ras Na Rinne took place last Friday evening in glorious weather conditions which brought out a field of 84 runners and a good turnout of walkers to add to the superbly organised event on the Coinigear . The race started at 7.30 and the runners were set on their way by Darren O’Droma of the organising committee in An Rinne. RAIVIS ZAKIS WINS O’ DROMA FAMILY TROPHY FOR RECORD 6TH TIME.
Raivis Zakis was the pre-race favourite from the entries received for this year event and he didn’t disappoint as he raced clear of the field once it came off the road and arrived at the Cunnigar for the strand leg of the race the early leader over the first mile on the road section Shane Mullanney Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. had dropped off the pace at this stage. Raivis was to go on to claim a record unprecedented 6th success at this event over its 28 years in existence in a time of 31.28 which was his fastest time since 2013 at this race, Once Raivis reached Paddy Lannens famed Waterford flag that proudly flies at the end of the Cunnigar point, he had already opened a substantial lead of his pursuers, included here was team mate Conor Coleman who is one of the most improved athletes in the club over the recent few months, Conor battled hard on the return leg of the race to hold onto that 2nd spot crossing the finish line in 34.06 with Colm Costello T.T.Racers taking the 3rd place this year in a time of 34.41.The over 40 category winner was Mossie Keogh West Waterford A.C. in a very fast 35.10 he finished 7th overall. The winner of the over 50 category was a visitor from Carrick On Suir AC when Eugene O’Keeffe cross the finish line in 35.40,Eugene also won this category in 2019 and on that occasion posted a time of 38.01 so great running improvement from Eugene. In the junior category Gearóid Coffey West Waterford A.C. ran a time of 39.48 putting in another strong performance to claim this prize. Well done to all runners and prize winners.

KATE VEALE TAKES LADIES TITLE FOR 2022.
Turning her attentions to a bit of running while on an end of season break from her speciality sport of Race Walking West Waterford’s Kate Veale proved the strongest over the sand last Friday evening when claiming her first win at Ras Na Rinne when she took the 2022 title in a time of 40.03.seconds place went to local Lady Niamh Uí Fhaoláin IND 40.57 who had a terrific run for her first Rás event this lady could very well win this race in future years, third home was Elaine Langley IND 41.44 not far behind Niamh, our top 3 female finishers were all under the 42 minute mark.The ladies over 35 category was won by Kim Daly West Waterford A.C. 51.03.The over 40 category went to Sarah Susuico IND 41.59.Stephanie Ilsley West Waterford A.C.44.27 took the over 50 ladies prize. Well done to all our winners and competitors on the night.

PAT HENNESSEY WINS UP THE NORTH WEST.
Club member Pat Hennessey holidaying up on the north west of the country has been making a bit of a name for himself in that beautiful part of our country , after his 2nd place last Friday in the Milford 5k the Lismore man was back in action Monday evening at the costal 10k held in Carrickfinn which saw a field of 104 competitors, the race was held next to the Donegal airport and the course included road and sand dunes with pat coming home alone in the heavy mist recording a time of 33.34 with two local men Declan Ferry Rosses AC 2nd in 34.53 and team mate Shane O Donnell Rosses AC 35.24.Well done Pat .
