ANOTHER PERFECT EVENING FOR WEEK 4 OF MASON MORTGAGES AND FINANCIAL SERVICES COLLIGAN SPRING RUNNING LEAGUE.

 

 

 

Round 4 of the Mark Mason Financial Colligan Spring League took place last Wednesday evening in the beautiful surround of Colligan wood on what was a perfect evening for running.  The league which ends this Wednesday evening which will be the 5th round. To be included in the tables you need to run 4 out of the 5 nights. As this in the last night of the league please note that the league prizes will be awarded and presented by our sponsor Mark Mason straight after the league finish. A total of 5 runners completed the 2 laps, We had 4 who ran the 3 laps flat course and finally 34 took on the challenging 5 mile hill route – this gave us a great crowd of 43 runners on the night. The final round will get underway at 6.30pm.

 

 

 

GEAROID COFFEY FASTEST OVER THE 2 LAP COURSE.

 

 

The 2 lappers were led home this week, indeed for the 2nd time by young Gearoid Coffey who recorded his fastest time of his two outings last week when he ran 20.16,he was followed by favourite to take the overall 2 lap league at this stage Margaret Whelan 24.40 and not long behind Margaret was Christopher Kelly in a time time of 24.56, with Barbara Duff finishing 4th in 25.55Micheál Moynihan was 5th in 30.06.Well done to everyone who completed the 2 lap league again this week and keep up your efforts for the final week where we expect to see more personal best times.

 

 

 

3 LAPS FLAT VICTORY FOR LINDA FOLEY.

 

 

Linda Foley looks to be in control of the 3 lap Flat league for 2022 as for the 3rd week in a row she finished first after the 3 laps of Colligan wood were completed. Linda has crossed the finish line first on 3 occasions from the four nights of the league to date and last week she recorded a time of 31.26,next across the finish line at the wooden bridge was Thomas Kavanagh 32.08 and Rachel Phelan was 3rd home last week in a good time also of 34.45, Clodagh Dwyer has stuck to this league rigidly every week and her time last week was 41.25, so well done to Clodagh and all the runners of our 3 lap flat course runners. 

 

 

 

PHILIP HARTY DOMINATES ON THE 5 MILE HILLS.

 

 

Running his 4th round of the league last week Philip Harty clocked one of the fastest times of the event to date when he clipped around the hills of Colligan wood in an impressive 31.21.Philip was followed home by Brian Byrne in 33.20.Philip looks likely to take the title of king of the Colligan hills for 2022 as he now has the required 4 nights completed. Once again Philip was followed home last week by Brian Byrne 33.20 and one of the most improved runners in Colligan was 3rd Kieran Russell 34.47 is in flying from presently. There was very little between our lady finishers last week with Aimee Moloney leading them home in a time of 45.17 but this was just 18 seconds ahead of Karen Ryan and Ann Dunford who both crossed the finish line together and were awarded the same time of 45.35, Well done to all who conquered the hills last week.

 

LEAGUE TABLES AND PRIZEGIVING.

 

 

This is a 5 week league and the rules of the league are that you have to run 4 weeks to appear on the league tables and of course these must be over the same distance. There will be prizes for top 3 male and female on 5 mile hill course and every 5th placed runner on league tables also and the top 2 on both the two shorter courses 2 and 3 lap flat will be awarded prizes. Mark Mason of Mason Mortgages and Financial Services has kindly sponsored this league once again this year and the prize giving will take place after the conclusion of the league in Colligan this Wednesday night.

THE AHS TUNING IRELAND TO SPONSOR 7th ANNUAL BALLINROAD 5K KICK STARTS SUMMER RACE PROGRAMME.

 

 

Our first race in the new look summer road race programme for 2022 will get underway with the AHS Tuning Ireland sponsored Ballinroad 5k on Friday May 13th at 7.30 pm. Firstly our sincere thanks to John Coleman of AHS for his continued sponsorship of this race which he has sponsored for the past 7 years. All at our club wish John and his team ever success in his new premises out on Coolagh road where he has recently moved to a bigger premises with his successful AHS Tuning Ireland business.This year once again after a two year break due to covid we are delighted to be able to help and support the local community in Ballinroad as the local soccer club Ballinroad A.F.C. will be the benefactors of the race, with monies donated towards their Pitch fund. The race will incorporate a fun run/walk with proceeds from them going towards the clubs fund for this project. Starting at 7.30 pm with Ballinroad community hall as the race H. Q. A huge turnout is expected if last year is anything to go by as we deem the race to be the fastest flattest 5k course around. As you know in West Waterford AC we like to cater for all and have different prize structures in all our races, for the Ballinroad race we will have prizes for the top 5 men and women with lots and lots of spots for down the field finishers. The entry fee is 10 euro pre entry online.The course chosen for the race is an excellent out and back course which is very flat so if it’s your first attempt at the 5k distance or you’re looking for a fast time on a flat- fast course this is your opportunity to shine. West Waterford Athletic Club are delighted to confirm dates and times for our summer programme of Road Races 2022.  We are finding that many are now using our online pre entry to our races which is a huge help to the race organisers .This year our online entry will be 10 euro per race. Also we are continuing our online race series package which will cost you only 50 euro for all 6 races. Going forward we hope to have more runners entered online as it really helps minimize the workload on the day of the race.

2.332 EURO RAISED AT 8TH ANNUAL AGLISH FUN RUN/WALK IN AID OF CHILDRENS HOPSPITAL CRUMLIN.

 

The 8th Aglish fun run walk in aid of the children’s hospital Crumlin was back after a covid break of two years,It was great to see a good turnout on bank holiday Monday last and the sun was shining brightly for the event with a great turnout of runners and walkers all helping to raise 2.332 euro for this most worthy cause, very well done to all who supported the event and well done to organiser Liam O’Donnell who had everything running smoothly on the day and added to the occasion with over 50 spot prizes awarded to runners and walkers alike.

 

 

 

BALLINTOTIS 4 MILE.

 

The Ballintotis 4 Mile Road Race was held last evening and a field of over 800 competed, the overall race winner was Michael Harty East Cork AC in 19.18 with Leevale’s Lizzie Lee taking the ladies victory in 22.19, West Waterford Ac was well represented on the night and first home was Ray Hahesy in 25.02, Ray was 1st over 55 in the race so well done to Ray,the clubs  first lady home was Kelly Fitzgerald running her first 4 miler in a time of 25.51,well done to all who competed

2nd LADY FOR CIARA BURKE AT BALLYNEALE 5K.

 

 

The annual Ballyneal 5k was held in the Tipperary village last Friday evening, but at this time there doesn’t seem to be any results available. Howver we can record 4 WWAC club members who ran on the night and well done to Ciara Burke who took 2nd Lady breaking the 20 minute barrier in 19.51.

ANTHONY WHELAN GIVES SUPERB PERFORMANCE ON THE MOUNTAINS OF MADEIRA..

Club member Anthony Whelan was in mountain running action last Saturday when he took part in the prestigious 60km Madeira Island Ultra Trail.Held over a gruelling 60KMS with huge climbing this race attracts mountain running athletes of the very highest standard and is one of the most prestigious events on the world stage. The race started at 8:00 a.m. in centre of Boaventura towards Lombo do Urzal, then uphill to Boca das Torrinhas where the route entered the Central mountainous massif before facing the mythical peaks, Ruivo and Areeiro. From there, the route wend  downwards, with passages at Chão da Lagoa, Portela, Porto da Cruz, and towards the levada of Caniçal, with the finish line at the Forum Machico.After a brilliant performance the Abbeyside man finished a superb 32nd in a time of 7 hours 40 minutes and 54 seconds.

 

PAT HENNESSEY WINS BANTEER 5.

Pat Hennessey was in winning form last Sunday when he took a deserved victory in the Banteer 5 mile road race,orgsnised by Mount Hillary AC Pat was a runaway winner with a time of 25.35 a super time for Pat who is the one of the most improved athlete’s on the Irish road racing scene presently, the Ladies winner was Carol Finn St.Finbarrs AC 29,.31.A field of 140 competed.

 

WEST WATERFORD ATHLETES COMPETE AT WEXFORD HALF.

 

The Annual Pettit’s Supervalu sponsors Wexford half marathon was held last Sunday in glorious sunshine and a great field of 943 finished on the day,they also had a field of 469 who ran the 10k race which was also part of the days racing. The half was won by local man David Mahon Slaney Olympic AC in 1.11.43 and the Ladies title went to Lucy O’Malley 1.26.12.West Waterford had 4 athletes who made the trip and first home here was Linda Foley in 1.37.44 a great run by Linda who recorded a whopping 5 minute PB. Darren O’Droma getting in good shape with every outing and will be well ready for this year’s Ras Na Rinne, Husband and Wife team Bernard and Anita Beatty are also back racing again and running well after like us all a 2 year Covid break,Bernard crossed the finish line in 1.56.58 and Anita 2.05.59,well done to all.
