IDEAL EVENING FOR WEEK 3 OF MARK MASON FINANCIAL SERVICES COLLIGAN SPRING RUNNING LEAGUE.
Round 3 of the Mark Mason Financial Services Colligan Spring League took place last Wednesday evening in the beautiful surround of Colligan wood on what was, once again, a perfect evening for running. The league starts each night at 6.30. The league is held over 5 nights and to be included in the tables you need to run 4 out of the 5 nights league will continue for the next 2 Wednesday evenings ( April 23rd and finally April 30th) so no excuses folks why not come along and give it a go for yourself if you missed the first few evening’s don’t worry, you can still join, just come along to the wooden bridge around 6.15 and we will get you started.
2 LAP RUNNERS GETTING INTO THE GROVE.
There was a total of 29 athletes completed the 2 lap flat course last Wednesday with many of these taking part trying out the league for the first time and each and every one of them are doing brilliantly.Leading the 2 lappers home last week was Laura Flavin with a time of 20.45, nest was Carol Walsh in 23.22 and 3rd across the finish line at the Wooden bridge was Cathriona Crowe in 23.56 4th was Tina Crotty 24.18. Micheal Moynihan was our first Male finisher heer last week and Micheál ran a time of 28.14.Well done to the participants of the 2 lap league. Keep up the efforts for the next 2 weeks.
RORY FITZGERALD IN COMMAND ON 3 MILE FLAT .
This week on the 3 lap mile flat route participants numbered 26 and they were lead home by Rory Fitzgerald who was running the league for the first time and impressively setting the fastest time over the 3 weeks of the league to date when clocking a very fast 25.16.Next finisher last week was Jason Travers just outside the 28 minute barrier recording a time of 28.05in 3rd place was Emilio Moya Rosa again unlucky not to break the 30 minute bark here when clocking a time of 30.02, our first Lady finisher was Kate Wall in 4th place with a time of 31.02, well done to all keep it going now lads for the remaining nights.
MARK AND DERMOT BATTLE IT OUT ON THE HILLS 5.
We had a great entry of 39 runners taking on the trail 5 hill run in Colligan this week and first home was Mark Walsh in 33.05 , Mark was chased all the way in close proximity by Dermot Gough who crossed the finish line in 33.26,county Waterford football star Brian Looby is running brilliantly and he finished 3rd in 35.09 unlucky not to break the 35 minute barrier, Brian Walsh was 4th home in 35.16.The first Lay finisher last week was Niamh O’Donovan as she has been over the first 2 rounds of the league and looks likely now to retain her 5 mile hills title from 2024 , Niamh ran a time of 40.21 last week..Well done to all who took on this tough course – no doubt you will see the benefits of this tough running as the year goes on.

THE AHS TUNING IRELAND 10th ANNUAL BALLINROAD 5K.
Our first race in the clubs summer road race programme for 2025 will get underway with the AHS Tuning Ireland sponsored Ballinroad 5k on Friday May 09th at 7.30 pm. Firstly our sincere thanks to John Coleman of AHS for his continued sponsorship of this race which he has sponsored for the past 10 years. John operates a very successful car tuning company from his premises out on Coolagh road., Abbeyside. This year once again we are delighted to be able to help and support the local community in Ballinroad as the local soccer club Ballinroad A.F.C. will be the benefactors of the race, with monies donated towards the club’s teams. The race will incorporate a fun run/walk with proceeds from them going towards the clubs fund. Starting at 7.30 pm with Ballinroad community hall as the race H. Q. A huge turnout is expected if previous year’s is anything to go by as we deem the race to be the fastest flattest 5k course around. As you know in West Waterford AC we like to cater for all and have different prize structures in all our races, for the Ballinroad race we will have prizes for the top 5 men and women with lots and lots of spots for down the field finishers. Through the generosity of our sponsor we will this year be offering a cash performance bonus for both men and women,100 euro is an the added offer to the first Male to break 14.50 and the same to the first Female to who can break 17.00. BALLINTOTIS 4 MILE ROAD RACE.
A great number of 1196 ran last Wednesday evenings Ballintotis 4 mile road race with ideal weather conditions for the night racing.The overall race winner was Ryan Creech Leevale AC in an excellent time of 19.05 a new course record and the first Lady finisher in 24th place overall was Fiona Everard Bandon AC in a time of 21.40.A large West Waterford AC contingent made the trip to the East Cork event with 30 running on the night.First home from the club was Conor Hennebry in an excellent time of 22.40 and Cait Verling was our first Lady home in 32.16, another fine run by Cáit.Ray Hahesy finished 2nd in the over 60 category, Listed below are all the club finishers, well done to all.

STREETS OF KILKENNY
The streets of Kilkenny 5k race took place last Thursday evening and a field of 895 ran. Overall race winner was local athletes Cathal O’Reilly Kilkenny City Harriers AC in a fast 14.15 and first Lady finishing 9th overall in a new course record time was Emily Sisson in a super time of 14.57.West Waterford has 4 athletes make the trip to the Marble City and there results were Onra Power 25.35,Carmel Mac Domhnaill 26.02-2nd over 60 ,Michael Coakley 26.59 and Carol Tobin 35.07, well done to all 4.
MSD BALLYNEAL 5K.
EVAN FITZGERALD FROM GUN TO TAPE.
A record entry of 179 competed race 1 of the 17th Annual Outfields Sports sponsored 3 race series with the MSD Ballyneal 5k road race taking place Friday evening last and organised by the Carrick on Suir Road Runners.West Waterford AC had a large number of athletes travel as is usually the case with the Carrick road racing events and it was a successful night for the club who provided the overall race winner in Evan Fitzgerald West Waterford AC who lead from gun to tape crossing the line well clear of the field in a time of 15.00 from last year’s winner local Carrick athlete Dermot Gorman 2nd in 15.50 and 3rd was Pat Fitzgerald Waterford AC in 15.57.First lady was Laura Behan IND in 18.51 just 4 seconds ahead of Kate Veale West Waterford AC 2nd in 18.55 and 3rd was another West Waterford athlete in 19.41. well done to all.
