12th ANNUAL PADDY JOE CURRAN OLD PARISH VIRTUAL TURKEY TROT.
This years event will be a little different however the goal of the organising committee is the same, to raise much needed funds for local cancer charities. The Virtual 5k Walk & Run takes place between November 26th-29th with all proceeds going to the South East Radiotherapy Trust (SERT). Established in 2005, SERT is a volunteer-based transport service covering the South East of Ireland. Vehicles provide door-to-door or pick up point collection for patients undergoing radiotherapy, to hospital and back again. SERT currently provides transportation from Waterford City, Clonmel, Dungarvan, Kilkenny, Wexford and South Tipperary to the UPMC Whitfield Cancer Centre in Waterford or to Cork University Hospital.
SERT currently has a fleet of seven vehicles and each vehicle is driven by one of their 150 volunteers on a rota basis.
In these exceptionally difficult times we want to give a special mention to our sponsors Cleanzone Technology LTD who have supported this event for the past 9 years. We want express our appreciation to company directors Ger Duhig and Johnny Curran for their generous support. Organising committee Chairperson Eoghan O’ Neill says “in these challenging times we are encouraging people to get out and enjoy a 5k run or walk between November 26th -29th. We are blessed with so many wonderful places to exercise, staying within the current level 5 restrictions of 5k from your home. This event has always received incredible support from runners and walkers from the West Waterford and East Cork area and we hope that this year will be no different.” All who donate via the Turket Trot An tSean Phobal GoFundMe page go into a draw to win one of our fantastic spot prizes. Prizes will also be on offer for participants who post photos of themselves talking part in their 5k and tagging the Old Parish Turkey Trot Facebook Page.
