44th ANNUAL DUBLIN MARATHON 2025.
The weather was a mixed bag last Sunday for this year Irish Life Dublin marathon showery and windy in places not ideal for the 18.475 athletes who took to the streets of the capital for the annual marathon event. D. Mesfin from United States won this year’s race in a time of 2:08:51 followed by M. Siyum Ethiopia runnerup in a time of 2:09:09 and 3rd man home was S. Tsegaye of Sweden in 2:09:29.In the Ladies event it was Eithipoia 1-2-3 E. Addunyaa taking the victory In 2:26:28 followed by Kena Girma 2:26:32 and Atsele Baysa 2:27:12 was 3rd.In the national marathon championship event victory went to Waterford AC athlete David Mc Glynn who had a great run crossing the finish line in 5th place overall with a time of 2:11:01 with Ryan Creech Leevale AC taking silver in 2:11:42 And bronze was claimed by P. O. Donnell Dundrum South Dublin AC in 2:12:11.Turning to the Ladies Irish championships race and finishing in 6th place overall was 19 year old Ava Crean – Back 2 Boston Running Club AC posting a time of 2:34.12 to take Gold and holding off defending champion from 2024 Ann Marie Glynn Strabane AC who had to settle for silver this year in a time of 2:36:24 with bronze going to N. Sheridan Bohermeen AC in 2:39:56.The clubs first finisher this year was Pat Hennessey who had a brilliant run to finish 49th overall with a time of 2.30.53.Second club athlete home was Raivis Zakis now in the over 45 category he ran a time of 2.39.48.John Coffey was the 3dr athlete to break the 3 hour mark clocking a time of 2.47.31 a PB for the Stradbally native. Linda Foley led our Ladies home in an excellent time of 3.31.32 followed by followed by Sandra Moore just in behind Linda with a great run clocking a time of 3.33.19 and 3rd Lady home was Louise Hynds in a time of 3.50.26. Those that improved their time from 2024 included Martin Stephenson by 4 minutes ,Jack Nolan had a blinder when knocking off 13 minutes from last year’s effort 3.36 down to 3.23. Jerry Power ran 3.43 last year and yes he ran 3.43 this year. Martin Tobin showed a marked improvement this year a whopping 32 minute improvement from 3.59.to 3.27. Brian Ormonde keeps his marathon efforts nice an steady with an improvement of 1 minute this year. Mick Concannon showed a 5 minute improvement this year clocking a time of 3.49 and Terri Gough showed 6 minutes improvement this year. Just a couple of other snippets from the day included good performances by brother and sister Brian and Denise Walsh, brothers Alan and Billy Ryan and likewise we had husband and wife teams of Brian and Fiona Ormonde, Louise and Jamie Hynds and Bernard and Anita Betty . Congratulations and very well done to all who trained diligently these past number of months for this show piece of Irish marathon running, the Fords Daybreak winter league will be a doddle for ye all now.

LEAGUE NUMBER COLLECTION THIS WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 29TH FOR THE 31ST ANNUAL “FORDE’S DAYBREAK” WINTER LEAGUE 6.30 pm.
On this Wednesday October 29th sees the league number collection take place for the 2025/26 31st Annual Forde’s Daybreak winter league which will be run over 11 weeks and organised by West Waterford athletic club. The event for those few who are not familiar with it caters for all types of runners and especially for those that have never ran before, we provide plenty of advice and encouragement so please don’t feel that you might be the only person trying it for the first time as guaranteed there will be many coming along again this year for the very first time just like you. There are 2 distances to choose from and they are commonly known as the long route 5.4 miles and the short route 2.3.miles. Come along on the night and register for whichever route you wish to do. We will be available to answer any questions you may have tonight or any other night. There is no official run on registration night, however many people do run the course but there will be no stewards on the course until round 1 which is the official start of the league. If you haven’t registered online to date you can come along and register on registration night, you can also do so the following week or any other night but we do urge as many as possible to come along and register in order to speed up proceedings for the following week. Your cooperation with this matter is much appreciated.
THE 31st ANNUAL FORDE’S DAYBREAK WINTER LEAGUE IS READY TO ROLE.
The clubs winter league which now enters its 31st year will begin in November. This year the number collection night will take place on the Wednesday October 29th and we can answer any questions you may have and we will also explain the rules and regulations of the league as well as the two courses of the league .The first official night of the league will be the following week November 05th. For all those that won’t be able to make it to the sports centre on the first night of number collection, you may get your number on the following night. In fact, it’s possible to join the winter league at any stage throughout the course of the league. Winter league payment is a once off payment, with club members paying 40 euro (this includes the 5 euro once off number payment) and for non-members you can pay a once off payment of 45 euro which also includes the 5 euro number payment charge. This amount will cover you for the full duration of the league.
FORDES DAYBREAK WINTER LEAGUE POINTERS.
The Fordes Daybreak Winter League will once again take place from the Sports Centre, Quanns Dungarvan for 11 Wednesday nights commencing on Wed 05th November. We will continue for 7 nights before Christmas bringing us up to Wednesday 17th December.
After Christmas we will return on Wednesday the 7th January and continue for 4 nights with our final night on the 28th January.
Number pick up will take place at the Sports Centre Dungarvan on Wednesday 29th October at 6.30pm or on first night of the league from 6.15pm.
We hope you will join us again for this annual event and if you haven’t been with us before we guarantee you won’t be disappointed. It’s an 11 week challenge that can maintain your fitness over the winter and start 2026 on a high note.
As usual 2 options to choose from. The first is the “long” route which is 5.2 miles while the second choice is the “short” route and the distance here is approx 2.3 miles. Both routes start and finish at the Sports Centre, Quanns.
No High Vis, No Run. We will not allow any runner take part who doesn’t wear a high vis. No exceptions. It has to be a high vis not a luminous t-shirt.
No watches allowed or No Headphones. This is a very strict rule of this event. We will publish your time asap after the run. Your aim each week will be to run the time you ran the week before or if possible a little faster.
Stewards must be obeyed at all times. Your participation in this event is an indicator of your compliance with this rule.
Rules of the road apply. You must run on the footpath at all times when available and only cross the road at designated points where stewards will direct you.

You will be issued with a number for a cost of €5. This number is water proof and should be used every night that you run. We will have people on hand at the sports centre that will be available to answer any questions you may have and we will also explain the rules and regulations of the league as well as the two courses of the league .The first official night of the league will be the following week November 05th. For all those that won’t be able to make it to the sports centre on the number collection night you may still register online and get your number on the following Wednesday night. Last year we introduced the ability to pay in full for the league, a once off payment, which will save you money if you intend running the league each night. SAFETY ON THE ROADS.
The first rule of safety when running on the road is that all runners must wear their reflective bib at all times. Bibs can be bought at any sports shop or hardware shop. Under no circumstances will any runner be allowed to take part in the winter league without a reflective bib. If you have now yet purchased one please do so before the start of the league. Watches and I Pods or any music ear pieces are strictly against club rules and will not be allowed. Runners must obey the stewards at all times. They are there for our own safety and are not to be ignored. Please be wary of traffic at all times but especially when crossing the road or overtaking somebody.
MURRAYS PHARMACY TO SPONSOR 30th ANNUAL BRICKEY 4 IN AID OF BRICKEYS GAA CLUB.
Bushy Park GAA grounds is the venue for the 30th annual Brickey Run. Again this year we are delighted to announce that once again as they have now done now for many years Murray’s Pharmacy Dungarvan are to continue on with their sponsorship of the race we sincerely thank Elizabeth and all at Murrays Pharmacy for this kind gesture. The proceeds from this year’s race will be donated to The Brickeys GAA club. The race distance will be over a very flat fast 5k loop around the Brickey valley starting and finishing at Bushy Park GAA grounds. The race will get under way at 11 am with registration online and race numbers can be collected at the club house from 10.15 onwards . The Martin Curran Cup will be awarded to the first man on the day and the Jim Lyons memorial shield will be awarded to the first lady. The prize-giving will take place in the club house immediately after the race and refreshments will also be provided for all the runners. Online entries open now.
