MURRAYS PHARMACY TO SPONSOR 30th ANNUAL BRICKEY 4 IN AID OF BRICKEYS GAA CLUB.

 

 

 

Bushy Park GAA grounds is the venue for the 30th annual Brickey Run. Again this year we are delighted to announce that once again as they have now done now for many years Murray’s Pharmacy Dungarvan are to continue on with their sponsorship of the race we sincerely thank Elizabeth and all at Murrays Pharmacy for this kind gesture. The proceeds from this year’s race will be donated to The Brickeys GAA club. The race distance will be over a very flat fast 5k loop around the Brickey valley starting and finishing at Bushy Park GAA grounds. The race will get under way at 11 am with registration online and race numbers can be collected at the club house from 10.15 onwards . The Martin Curran Cup will be awarded to the first man on the day and the Jim Lyons memorial shield will be awarded to the first lady. The prize-giving will take place in the club house immediately after the race and refreshments will also be provided for all the runners. Online entries open now.

 

THE 31st ANNUAL FORDE’S DAYBREAK WINTER LEAGUE JUST AROUND THE CORNER.

 

 

 

 The clubs winter league which now enters its 31st year will begin in November.  This year the number collection night will take place on the Wednesday October 29th and we can answer any questions you may have and we will also explain the rules and regulations of the league as well as the two courses of the league .The first official night of the league will be the following week November 05th. For all those that won’t be able to make it to the sports centre on the first night of number collection, you may get your number on the following night. In fact, it’s possible to join the winter league at any stage throughout the course of the league. Winter league payment is  a once off payment, with club members paying 40 euro (this includes the 5 euro once off number payment) and for non-members you can pay a once off payment of 45 euro which also includes the 5 euro number payment charge. This amount will cover you for the full duration of the league.

 

 

FORDES DAYBREAK WINTER LEAGUE POINTERS.

The Fordes Daybreak Winter League will once again take place from the Sports Centre, Quanns Dungarvan for 11 Wednesday nights commencing on Wed 05th November.  We will continue for 7 nights before Christmas bringing us up to Wednesday 17th December.

 

After Christmas we will return on Wednesday the 7th January and continue for 4 nights with our final night on the 28th January.

 

Number pick up will take place at the Sports Centre Dungarvan on Wednesday 29th October at 6.30pm or on first night of the league from 6.15pm.

 

We hope you will join us again for this annual event and if you haven’t been with us before we guarantee you won’t be disappointed.  It’s an 11 week challenge that can maintain your fitness over the winter and start 2026 on a high note.

 

As usual 2 options to choose from.  The first is the “long” route which is 5.2 miles while the second choice is the “short” route and the distance here is approx 2.3 miles.  Both routes start and finish at the Sports Centre, Quanns. 

 

No High Vis, No Run.  We will not allow any runner take part who doesn’t wear a high vis.  No exceptions.  It has to be a high vis not a luminous t-shirt.

No watches allowed or No Headphones.  This is a very strict rule of this event. We will publish your time asap after the run. Your aim each week will be to run the time you ran the week before or if possible a little faster.

Stewards must be obeyed at all times.  Your participation in this event is an indicator of your compliance with this rule.

Rules of the road apply. You must run on the footpath at all times when available and only cross the road at designated points where stewards will direct you.

WILLIE HENRY RIP.

We are very saddened to hear of the passing of Willie Henry Lismore who was a respected and a well-loved athlete in the local running community. Willie ran back in the 1980’s as a member of Dungarvan AC and he was the inaugural winner of the Kiely Monumental Colligan Cup back in 1989.He also had the distinction of running in the very first Dublin City Marathon in 1980 and he went on to run numerous other marathons around that time. He is remembered fondly for his warmth and popularity among fellow athletes. Sincere condolences to his wife Breed, children Maeve, Liam, and Paul, and the entire Henry family.May Willie Henry rest in peace — a true gentleman and pioneer of local athletics.

 

GOLD FOR JOE OVER 800 METERS AT EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Club member Joe Gough won the 800 metres over 70 at the European Masters last Saturday morning in Madeira by inches in 2 .29.39 with a Latvian Peteris Arents  2nd in 2. 29.57 and Jean Rou from France 3rd in 2. 29 .76  3rd. Joe was 3rd with 60 metres to go then saw a slight gap at 50 metres and slid between them to clinch the victory.This gold adds to his silver medal won over 1.500 meter earlier in the championships.Congratulations Joe from all at your club.

 

FEARGHAL CURTIN SMASHES IRISH MARATHON RECORD.

We knew last February when he smashed the John Treacy Dungarvan 10 mile course record and ran of the fastest 10 mile times ever by an Irish man that Fearghal Curtin Youghal AC was on the road to a very special year ahead.All the pieces came together last Saturday in Korea when in the  Gyeongju marathon he came of age when setting a new standard of 2:07:54 — a new Irish record, beating Peter Lynch’s 2:09:36 (set April in Düsseldorf) by 1 minute 42 seconds. The Runner-up: Antenayehu Dagnachew Yisma (Ethiopia) –clocked a time of 2:10:35 and 3rd was Stanley Kiprotich Bett (Kenya) – 2:11:07. Fearghal 27  was running just his second marathon. He also recently broke the Irish half-marathon record also with 1:00:22 in Copenhagen. In Gyeongju, he ran a controlled race, passing 20km in 61:34 before speeding up in the second half to win convincingly. Huge congratulations to him his family and club Youghal AC.

 

 

CRAIG RUNS AMSTERDAM.

For the 3rd year in a row club member Craig Sheehan made the trip to Amsterdam and completed the marathon Sunday in a time of 4.22.02 ,well done Craig.
