New Course Record in Elvery’s InterSport Juvenile Winter League.
Last Wednesday was the first night of the team competition in Elvery’s Intersport Juvenile Winter League (Tony’s League). Despite the bad weather we had a good turnout of 86 athletes.
Tommy Fennell was again the fastest on the day improving 15 secs from the week before. Lucy Holmes was the best of the girls taking 27secs off her and beating Aoife Hamiltons course record of 6mins 26 set in 2013.
There were some great times recorded, with over half the athletes bettering their times of the previous week. Cian Qualter made the biggest improvement knocking almost two minutes off his time and going under 9mins for the first time. Fionnan Lonergan and Iryna Martinez improved on their trial times by over 1 minute. In the short lap, Charlie Curran ran 3 mins 46 seconds and was the only athlete to run under 4 minutes. Mark Blackwell broke the 7 minute barrier for the first time recording a great time of 6 mins 45 seconds. Sarah Nyhan also broke the 7 minute barrier, running a very fast 6 minutes 54 seconds. In all eleven athletes have now run under 7mins this year. Mary Kate Prendergast dipped under 8mins and nine more athletes broke the 9 minute barrier. Well done to all who turned. The league will continue after the midterm break.
Although it is very early days, Lucy Holmes’ team has taken the lead by 29 points. However, just one point separates Eoin Bueneventura’s team which is currently in 2nd and Ian Holmes’ team which is in 3rd place. It is still all to play for !! Remember it is very important that you turn up and run for your team the league will go ahead rain, hail or snow.

Munster Championships in Conna Sunday Nov 10th
The next session of the Munster cross country championships under 9,11,13,15,17&19 will take place in Conna Co. Cork on Sunday November 10th with an 11.30 start. We are finalising the entries at training this week so please check with Mary Ashe on Wed or Friday. We hope to have a large group travelling to this event with teams in most of the age groups.
