Small Turnout for St Senan’s Open Cross Country
Seventeen athletes from West Waterford made the journey to Kilmacow for the
annual St Senan’s Open Cross Country. This was a well supported event and is one
of the few times in the year when our athletes get to compete against the
Leinster clubs who always turn out in big numbers for this event.
First in action in the boys under 8 was Seán Enright who made it into the top 15.
In the under 9 races Olivia Hurney in 21 st was just ahead of Maddie Grant in 22 nd .
In the boys event Lachlann Murray had a great run to finish in 5 th place with Liam
Enright 21 st and Daniel Houlihan 22 nd .
Sibéal Curran was first home for West Waterford in the under 10 girls race
running a super race to finish in 5 th place. Next home was Ciara Kenny 17th just
ahead of Ayla Hogan 18 th. Sadie Burke came through in 23 rd with Maggie Byrne in
36 th . Caleb Roche was our only representative in the boys under 10 where he
finished 17 th .
Etain Ní Mhurchadha put in a good run over the 1000m to finish 8 th in the girls
under 12 race. Rachel Keogh had a very strong run in the under 14 1500m to
finish in 6 th place with Sinead Houlihan 30 th in the same event.
In the under 16 2000m Caoimhe Houlihan finished 13 th and Aaron Connors got his
first taste of competitive cross country running when he finished 10 th in the boys
under 16.
Well done to all who travelled to St Senan’s we will see you all in action again in
the county championships.
Great Turn Out for Day 1 of the County Championships
It was heartening to see so many West Waterford athletes in action on day one of
the county championships and with so many competing the club was able to field
full teams in 7 of the ten races scoring team medals in all ages in boys and girls.
Team medals will be given out after training on Wednesday. Let’s hope we have
even bigger numbers on Day 2 in the Friary next Sunday. Full results and photos in

Tony’s League to Start Earlier this Year
Our much anticipated winter league known as Tony’s League will get underway on
Wednesday 8 th of September @ 4.30 with the first of two trial runs. The second
trial run will be on Wednesday 15 th and you must run on at least one of these
dates to make the teams for the team competition over the next four weeks. The
teams will be decided for the team competition after the run on the 15 th and the
team race will get underway on October 22 nd .For many of our athletes this is the
highlight of the cross country season. This will take place at training time on
Wednesdays and will be run over seven weeks.
