123.ie Munster Schools Championships  
 
 
 
Castleisland is the venue next Sat May 20th for the 123.ie Munster Schools Track and Field Championships. Ten athletes from West Waterford AC will make the long journey to the Kerry venue to compete for their schools.
Over the past number of weeks athletes from all over Munster have been competing at qualifying events and the best will compete in Castleisland where each event will be a final. At stake will be qualifying places for the All Ireland Championships on June 2nd and 3rd.
Isabelle Gaffney competes in the Minor 800m while Sarah O’Riordan will go in the Inter 800m. Lauren Cliffe qualified for the Inter 300m final and in the 3000m events Fia de Paor will go in the Inter event and Grainne Moore in the Senior race.
In the field events Saoirse Quinn has qualified to compete in both the discus and hammer. All the above will represent their school St Augustine’s.
In the boys events Oisin Whelan will compete in the Minor 800m . Rory Donnolly goes in the junior walk and Noah Commins in the junior 1500m. All will compete with St Augustine’s.
In the senior shot Paul Mullarkey will represent Dungarvan CBS.
The best of luck to all athletes from West Waterford representing their schools on Saturday. It will be a long day with the first event @10am and the programme finishing @6.00. The full programme of events can be found on the Munster schools athletics website.
 
 
Good Turnout for Round 1 of the Club Championships
 
 
Over sixty young athletes competed in round one of the club championships held on Wednesday last. The under 9’s competed in sprint and long jump, the under 10’s in sprint and turbo javelin. Next week all will compete in 200, 300 or 400m and the under 13’s and under 14’s will have long jump and the under 11’s will have turbo javelin. If you missed week one you can join in on week 2.
