Munster Indoor Title for Aisling Hickey
Aisling Hickey continued in the footsteps of her older sisters Doireann and Eabha with a convincing win in the girls under 14 race walking event at the 123.ie Munster Indoor Championships in Nenagh. Aisling covered the 1000m distance in 5m.54 and finished almost 30secs clear of Doireann Quinn of Moyne. Aisling will now head to the national championships where she will be joined by Isabelle Gaffney who has already qualified in the 400m and 800m.
Also in action at the weekend was Eatain Ní Mhurchadha in the girls under 12 600m. Eatain had a new pb for the distance of 2.08.17improving her time from last years outdoors by 1 sec. Usually indoor times are slower than outdoors as there are more laps and the bends are much tighter but Etain can be happy with her new time.
123.ie All Ireland Schools Cross Country in Belfast
Just three athletes from West Waterford A.C. made the trip to Belfast to compete in the 123.ie All Ireland Cross Country in Mullusk Playing Field. On a mild dry day over a testing course all three ran well. Best placed finisher was Noah Commins. Running in the St Augustine’s red and black Noah improved his position with every lap to come home in 23rd and was the 4th Munster athlete across the line a big improvement on his 8th place in Munster. Competing for Dungarvan CBS was William McNally, a real allrounder who also excels at swimming and cycling, William ran a very steady race over the 5000m to come home in 36th place. Shauna Deevy represented Ardscoil na nDeise in the senior girsl race. This was a very fast paced race as it was led out by our recent European bronze medal winner. Shauna stuck with the pace in the middle of the pack and finished in 44th place.

Please remember (if you haven’t done so already) to renew your registration with Athletics Ireland. This covers insurance and the club membership fee for the year. Lynn and Fiona are busily collecting the training fees at training and the early bird offer comes to an end soon.
