First All Ireland Title for Aadi Paniker

Aadi Panicker is a newcomer to athletics having only taken up the sport in May this year. He showed a natural aptitude for a number events and won county medals in 100m,200m 800m and long jump before going on to win the triple jump in the Munster Schools Championships. He missed out all competitions in June as he was away on holidays but got in two weeks solid training before competing in the last competition of the season the 123.ie All Ireland B championships. Competing first in the long jump he jumped 4m72 to take the gold medal and then came back in the afternoon to run the 800m. This was divided into two heats and the results decided on times. Adi won heat 2 in 2.21 but as the first heat was won in a faster time he had to settle for second place for a great finale to his first season in athletics.  He can now look forward to a busy cross country season.

On Saturday Noah Commins and Kasey Connors were in action on Day 3 of the 123.ie National Championships. Competing in her first All Ireland Kasey went to the line in a tough 250m hurdles competition. In sweltering conditions she ran 42.66 and did not progress to the final. Noah Commins was in a very fast 1500m and he was close to his personal best when finishing 4th in 4.12.29 in very tough conditions for middle distance running.
