4th National Title and International Selection for Isabelle Gaffney

Continuing her rich vein of form Isabelle Gaffney rounded off her domestic season with a fourth national title. Having already won in the 400m and 800m under 17 indoor titles followed by victory in the 123.ie Intermediate Schools 800m Isabelle took the 123.ie 800m outdoor title recently in Tullamore. Having established herself as the top under 17 800m athlete in the country with a best time of 2.06 over 800m  Isabelle was selected on the Irish team for the European under 18 Championships which will be held in Rieti Italy. Isabelle’s heats get under way on Friday July 17th @10.20 with the semi finals on Saturday July 18th @19.55 and the finals on Sunday 19th @18.45 (all times local).

On Wednesday last at training our young juveniles gave Isabelle a rousing reception as the club wished her bon voyage on her journey to Italy. Club Chairman and Isabelle’s coach Raivis Zakis made a presentation to Isabelle on behalf of the juvenile committee of WWAC.

 

Noah Commins Travels to Budapest to Compete in the Fisecs Games

 Noah Commins will also on International duty next week as he represents St Augustine’s College in the International Fisec Games. This is a multi sport competition that includes athletics, basketball and swimming. Noah will be in action in the 800m on Wednesday 15th July @9.45 with the finals taking place @11am On Thursday 16th . Noah showed his best form of recent years with two good runs at the national championships. He qualified from a very fast heat to make the final and 90mins later he had to run close to 2mins to take a bronze medal in the under 18 boys 800m

Also competing at the National Championships were Michalina Goclick who finished 4th in the Discus, Aisling Hickey 5th in the under 14 walk and Shauna Deevy had another good run over 800m in the under 18 girls event.

Great Night at Finisk Valley Fun Night

West Waterford had 28 athletes competing athe Finisk Valley Fun Night and what a great time was had by all. They sprinted and ran long distance, jumped and threw the turbo javelin and rounded it all off with the relays. After the event there were very welcome refreshments and medals for all participants. Well done to Finisk Valley AC for putting on a great night. Lots of photos of the event in next weeks notes.
