123.ie Munster Schools Cross Country in Riverstick next Thursday
The venue for next Thursday’s 123.ie Munster Schools Cross Country will be the
Cork County Board Grounds in Riverstick Co Cork. There will be eight races in all
Minor, Junior, Inter and Senior boys and girls with the first race underway at
12noon. The best individual and teams from the three regions in Munster will
compete for individual and teams honours and places in the 123.ie All Ireland
Schools Championships which take place this year at Mullusk Playing Fields in
Belfast. Given all the rain over the past few weeks conditions on the course will be
challenging especially on the lower part of the course.
There will be plenty of local interest in all races as all the Dungarvan schools have
athletes qualified. At the East Munster Championships the best individual
performances by West Waterford athletes were Noah Commins (St Augustin’e) 2 nd
in the senior boys, Fia de Paor (St Augustine’s) 2 nd in the senior girls, William Mc
Nally (Dungarvan CBS) 2 nd in the Inter Boys, Shauna Deevey ( Ardscoil na nDeise)
4 th in the senior girls and Alicia Radley (St Augustine’s) 4 th in the Minor girls. All
these athletes will challenge for individual honours and places in the All Ireland
championships. Sarah O’Riordan representing St Augustine’s also qualified in the
senior girls race as did Jessics Grigor who competed for Ard Scoil na nDeise.
Natalie Barry finished 10 th and helped St Declan’s to qualify in the junior girls race.
Aimee Ryan and Ava Ryan had good runs in the Inter girls race to help St
Augustine’s team qualify to run and Aadi Paniker was a scoring member of the St
Augustine’s inter boys team that made it through to the Munster Championships.
St Augustine’s fielded a very strong minor girls team that also included West
Waterfords Mia Murry and Alison Drea and they should be in the hunt for team
medals on Thursday. In the minor boys race Cathal Murphy led the St Augustine’s
team that also qualified for Thursday’s Championships.Best of luck to all our athletes competing on Thursday.
