Club Training Changes to 4.15 Wed and Fri

As the evenings are closing in and its getting darker earlier we have moved club training time to 4.15 on Wednesday and Friday at the Friary.  Be aware that it is very busy around the school around 4pm on Wednesday as school finishes shortly before 4pm. Because of this we have moved the athlete check in from the pedestrian gate to the entrance to the training field. Athletes must check in for training before 2pm.

Tony’s League Starts on Wednesday 13th @ 4.15

Our much anticipated winter training league starts on Wednesday. Because of the covid restrictions in place last year we had to forgo Tony’s League which is the highlight of the cross country season for many of our athletes. This year the league is back again and will start on October 13th. The first two Wednesdays will be an individual event with the younger athletes running 1000m and the older athletes 2000m (one lap of the Friary) and you must run in one of these races to be on a team.

Everyone is trying to get a good base line time and then Tony will have the difficult job of sorting out the teams. The teams will be made up of athletes of all ages and abilities. The team race will run over 4 weeks starting on Wed Nov 3rd and the final run which is run in reverse order will be on Dec 1st . The league will run hail rain or shine and it is important that all team members turn up each week as a missing team member can change the standing of the team very quickly.

The weather forecast is good for Wed so with the ground in excellent condition we can expect some very good times.

Munster Championships Sun 24th and Sun 31st October

The first day of the Munster championships under 10,12,14,16 and 18 will be held in Two Mile Borris Co Tipperary on Sunday 24th of October.

West Waterford will enter girls teams in all the age groups and boys under 10, 12,14 and 16. If you will be away that weekend please let me know at training on Wed. We will base our entries on performance at the county championships, the first round of Tony’s League and participation at training. Our older athletes will compete in both rounds of the championships but the younger athletes will for the most part run in their own age groups. The Munster championships are a big step up from the county championships with up to 100 athletes competing in some of the races. If we feel some of our younger athletes who have only been with us a few weeks are not ready for this challenge we will advise them to wait until next year.

The second day of the championships will also be held in Two Mile Borris and will be for athletes under 9,11,13,15,17 and 19.
