Mc Grath’s Colligan Cup on Sunday 19th  @11am

All systems are ready to go for theColligan Cup on Sunday  next January 19th .  This will be a nice easy introductory run for those who had been a break since early December and a good practise for the schools events on Wednesay . The juvenile Colligan Shield will get under way at the earlier time of 11am again this year. Registration starts at 10.15.

This event, which will again be sponsored by Albert McGrath Newsagents, challenges an athlete’s pace and judgement as well as their running skills. No watches are allowed so everyone has the same chance to win the race.  Remember is not how fast you run that counts but how accurate you are in predicting your time.

This is an open event and anyone can take part. The juvenile race will be run over one circuit of Colligan.  The person with the slowest predicted time will start first and the fastest runners will go off last so speed or age makes no difference. The winner will be the first person home after the clock hits zero.  Last year over fifty juveniles took part in this event and we hope for even bigger numbers this year. Last year’s winner was Natalie Barry who was bang on her predicted time.  All five prize-winners were within 10secs of their predicted times.  Remember it is not how fast you run that counts but how near you are to your predicted time.  Who will get it right this year?

Munster Cross Country Award for Lucy Holmes

Over the Christmas break we were notified that Lucy Holmes had won the Munster award for cross country.  Lucy won both the under 19 and junior Munster cross countries and was runner up in the under 18 cross country. The award will be presented at the Munster Sports Star Awards Dinner which will be held this year in the Tower Hotel on Sat Feb 1st. This is a huge honour for Lucy, her coach Tony Shalloe and West Waterford A.C. The last athlete from the club to receive this award was Micheal Power in 2017.  Lucy will be supported on the night by her family and several members of West Waterford AC juvenile committee. If anyone wants tickets contact Mary Ashe
