Tony’s League Concludes for Younger Athletes
Michelle and Antoinette were on hand for the final run of our youngest age group. Our league this year was run as an individual time trial and there was a great tussle for the fastest boy between Charlie Curran and Callum Curran with Charlie running 3.48 on the final night to win by 5secs. Aimee Barry was the fastest of the girls with a time of 4.13. Ciara O’Donovan improved the most over the three weeks knocking 30secs off her time to finish on 4.35. On the last night Conor Mc Carthy and Patrick Mullaney both went under 4mins for the first time and both recorded a time of 3.58. Fergus Donnelly 4.09, Peter Ahearn 4.10, Lochlainn Hurney 4.20, Ciara Flavin4.38 and Matilda Matuzzi 4.39 all recorded their best times on Wednesday and went home happy to enjoy a well earned Christmas break.
Even though the rain poured down on Friday night there was a good turn out from Silvia’s group for their results from Wednesday and their last night’s training. Rory Donnelly finished with a best time of 7.22 making him the fastest boy under 12 on the 2000m course. On the short course there were lots of best times recorded on the final night and it finished in a tie for the fastest boy between Rian Curran and Cian Qualter who both ran 3m40. Isabelle Matuzzi made a huge improvement on the final night to win fastest girl with a time if 4.19. Leah Wall made the biggest improvement knocking almost 40 secs off her time to finish with 4.38. Aoife Doyle 4.28 and Amy O’Riordan 4.59 both went under 5mins for the first time. Other to improve their times on the last night were Luisne de Paor 4.27, Gracie Walsh O’Brien5.24. Cathal McKenna finished with a best time of 4m10 and Oisin Mc Govern’s best was 4.53.
John and Mary’s group will have one more run over the distance on Wednesday and John’s group will finish on Wednesday with Mary’s group having one last run out on Friday.
Change of Time for Tony’s Group
This week Tony’s group will train on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday morning.
On Monday and Wednesday they will meet outside the Friary @6.15 and will be running on the Greenway. On Saturday morning @10am they will meet in Colligan Wood for a tussle with the hills.
