Individual Medals for Naoise and Grainne at Munster Cross Country Championships
Day 2 of the Munster Cross Country Championships under 9,11,13,15,17 and 19 were held on Tramore Racecourse on Sunday last. Conditions were ideal for cross country running with the many hills providing a tough test for the young athletes. Tramore AC put in a huge effort to make sure all went smoothly on the day.
Best performance of the day came in the final race of the day when Naoise Mac Mhurchadha had his best run this season to finish 2nd in the boys under 19 race and claim the individual silver medal. Naoise was in the top six from the start and by the time they started the second lap he had moved up to 4th place, as they came into view for the last lap Naoise had moved up to second place and held that spot to the finish line. In the girls under 19 Grainne Moore also claimed an individual medal when she finished 11th in the girls under 19 race. Grainne ran at a strong pace throughout the race to ensure her qualification for the All Ireland Championships.
First Munster Medals for Ayla Hogan And Sibéal Curran
It was a big step up from county to Munster for our under 9 athletes but they rose to the challenges of the tough course and the big fields. Best of the girls was Ayla Hogan who finished 22nd and she was followed by Sibéal Curran in 39th. Both girls scored on the Waterford team that finished 3rd . Ciara Kenny made it into the top 50th when she finished 49th and Sadie Burke completed the team scoring in 71st place. The team finished 7th of the 15 club teams competing. Best of the boys was Ché o’hArtaigh in 24th place with Conor Queally next in 40th and Keelan Holland and Caleb Roche finished close together in 68th and 69th place.
Biggest Field of the Day Compete in under 11 Races
The biggest field of the day were in the under 11 races with 150 girls and 125 boys competing over the hilly 1500m course. Ethain Ní Mhurchadha moved up and age and finished in 48th place. She also scored on the Waterford team that finished 4th in the inter county competition. Kenzie Connors was competing in her first Munster race and finished 109th. Liam Wilmott was the best of the boys in 35th place followed by Daniel Curran in 69th Conal O’Ruairc 79th, Joey Ryan 90th, Jamie Kiely 93rd and Billy Ryan 120th.
First Munster medal for Eabha Broderick
The boys and girls under 13 races were run over 2500m which meant the athletes had to run the short hill twice and the long hill once. In the girls race Eabha Broderick finished 41st . She was the third scoring member of the Waterford team that finished 3rd . Leah Kiely just missed out on the last scoring place by just one place finishing 57th next was Madison Connors 67th and Eile De Paor 76th. Eabha, Leah and Madison will all qualify to compete on the Waterford team for the All Ireland which will be held in Tramore. Our three under 13 boys ran well to finish in the middle of the field with Tiernan Hogan the best in 44th followed by Colm O’Muiri in 60th and Kevin Russell in 64th place.
Under 15 Girls Club Team Qualify for the All Ireland
The under 15 girls surprised themselves by finishing 4th in the team competition and qualifying for the All Ireland Championships. First home was Suin Cunningham in 40th place and Suin was also a scoring member of the Waterford team that finished third in the inter county contest. She was just one place ahead of Saoirse Kinsella in 41st and Natalie Barry was not far behind in 49th. Both Ava Ryan and Sheelagh Curran were running at this level for the first time and finished in 60th and 61st place. All five girls will now compete in the All Ireland Championships in December.
Silver Medals for William McNally and Noah Commins
Competing in the under 15 boys William Mc Nally put in a great run over the 3500m to finish 25th. William was a scoring member of the Waterford boys under 15 team who finished 2nd in the inter county race. In the under 17m race Noah Commins running up an age finished 14th and was also a scoring member of the Waterford under 17 team that finished 2nd so both William and Noah have qualified for the All Ireland Championships. Sarah O’Riordan 44th and Jessica Griger 49th also qualified for the All Ireland when the Waterford team finished 2nd in the inter county event.

All Ireland Championships in Co Fermanagh
The first day of the All Ireland Championships under 12,14,16,18 and juniors will take place in Necarne Castle, Irvinestown County Fermanagh on Sunday Nov 17th. The following athletes from West Waterford will be travelling to compete in the event.

Our winter league hots up this week with the team race starting on Wednesday. Come a few minutes early as the teams will be up on the Board before training. It is important that you come every week for the next four weeks of the team competition as one missing team member can make a big difference to the team scores. Try your best to beat your time of the last two weeks.
