Fia de Paor, Noah Commins and Naoise Mac Mhurchadha qualify for 123.ie All Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships in Galway
The heavy rain on Thursday night and Friday morning made conditions very challenging for our young athletes as they competed in the 123.ie Munster Cross Country Championships. Mud mud and more mud was the order of the day with conditions underfoot very sticky.
Saoirse Kinsella competed with Pobalscoil na Trionoide Youghal in the minor girls race and finished 32nd. Olan Dexereaux CBS was 39th in the minor boys 2000m. Siún Cunningham was the first of the St Augustine’s team home in the junior girls finishing 37th with Ava Ryan 57th and Ava Kiely who moved up from the minors 59th.
William McNally CBS was unlucky to just miss out on qualifying for the All Irelands as he finished in 16th place with the top 15 going through. Noah Commins made sure of his qualification with a 13th place finish in the Intermediate boys race. Fia de Paor ensured her qualification with an 8th place finish in the senior girls race and she was followed home by Grainne Moore in 26th and Sarah O’Riordan 27th.
The St Augustine’s team finished in 4th place with just 3 teams going through to the All Ireland. The final race of the day the senior boys saw East Munster athletes fill the first two place with Diarmuid Moloney Nenagh CBS taking the win and Naoise Mac Mhurchadha finishing second to bring the silver medal home to Meanscoil san Nioclas. Naoise Fia and Naoah will now set their sights on the 123.ie All Ireland Schools Championships which will be held in Galway Racecourse on March 8th.
