Huge Number of Athletes Compete at Ferrybank Open Sports

All roads led to the RSC last Sunday as over 1000 athletes from all over Munster and Leinster competed at Ferrybank Open Sports. This is the first meet of the year on the track and competition was stiff across all events as all the clubs wanted to give their athletes a chance to compete on the track. With lots of events having more than fifty competitors it took some time to get through the programme but as everyone was enjoying the sunshine and the friendly competition the time passed quickly. West Waterford had twenty athletes competing and they took part in the running, jumping and throwing events.

For our under 9’s Taylor, Kate, Roxanna, Molloi, Ide and Liam it was really in at the deep end as competition was of an All Ireland Standard. Ide and Taylor both made it in to the finals of their sprint events. Kenzie Connors made it through to the semi finals of the under 12 hurdles. Eabha Broderick and Madison Connors qualified for the finals in both the sprint hurdles and the 100m and were 5th and 6th over 700m. Well done to all our athletes who competed on the day you won’t meet competition as tough as this again until the Munster Championships. It was good to get a run on the track before the county championships on April 27th.
