Big Win for Fia de Paor at 123.ie East Munster Schools Cross Country

Fia de Paor swapped her West Waterford vest for a St Auigustine’s one to compete in the East Munster Schools Championships last Thursday and over a tough hilly and heavy course she came out on top winning the Intermediate girls race. She was well backed up by KCK’s Aoibhinn Ryan and West Waterfords Sarah O’Riordan and Lauren Cliffe who were all in the top 12 and easily claimed the team prize for St Augustine’s.

In the junior girls race Isabelle Gaffney West Waterford and St Augustine’s put in a solid performance to finish 3rd and Luisne de Paor had her best run ever fininshing 12th and ensuring 1st team prize for St Augustine’s. St Augustine’s also claimed the junior boys title with West Waterford’s Rory Donnolly and Oisin Whelan scoring on the team.

In the Inter boys Noah Commins West Waterford and St Augustine’s was up against some tough opposition but proved equal to the task finishing in 3rd place.

In the Minor girls race West Waterfords Sophie Beresford finished 11th and Siun Cunningham was 19th and both were members of the St Augustine’s team that finished 3rd in the team race.

There was a great win for Dungarvan CBS in the Minor boys race and the team was led home by William Mc Nally.

In the senior boys race Naoise Mac Mhurchadha West Waterford and Meanscoil finished 3rd while his class mate Dualta Mac Mhurchadha finished 12th.  In the Senior girls race Graiine Moore West Waterford and St Augustine’s was on the podium finishing 4th with Clodagh Stapleton Blackwater in 9th place.

All of these young athlete will have another days racing in Cork on Feb 27th at the 123.ie Munster Schools Championships in Tramore Valley Park
