Shona Curran Helps Ireland to 6th place in World Mountain Running Championship
Summer and mountain running don’t usually go together but for the first time this year Ireland sent a youth’s boys and girl’s team to compete at the World Mountain Running Championships in Susa Italy. This race is held in memory of Marco Germatto a seven times Italian cross country and mountain running champion who was killed in a car crash at eighteen years of age. The Irish did well to hold their own against the strongest nations in mountain running. The race was run over a steep 3.3km course and Shona finished third of the Irish girls in 30th position. Ireland finished sixth in the girls competition in a race won by the home team while the boys team finished 7th.
The club would like to extend their sympathy to the Queally and O’Riordan families on their recent bereavement.
