Albert McGrath to Sponsor Colligan Cup on Sunday next January 24th
Next Sunday will be a busy one in Colligan. At 1.00 p.m. the juvenile Colligan Cup will get under way.  This event which will again be sponsored by Albert McGrath challenges an athletes pace and judgement as well as their running skills.

This is an open event and anyone can take part. The juvenile race will be run over one circuit of Colligan.  The person with the slowest predicted time will start first and the fastest runners will go off last so speed or age makes no difference. The winner will be the first person home after the clock hits zero.  Last year sixty-three juveniles took part in this event and we hope for even bigger numbers this year. Last years winner was Bobby Landers who was only three seconds outside his predicted time.  Remember it is not how fast you run that counts but how near you are to your predicted time. Last year 28 of the athletes ran faster than predicted and 14 athletes ran within ten secs of their predicted time. Registration starts at 12.15 and the race will get under way at 1.00 sharp so come early and make sure you warm up before you run.  The juvenile race will be followed by the senior event.

Schools Cross Country
The Waterford and East Munster Post Primary Schools Cross Country will be held in St Augustine’s College on Friday Jan 29th   starting at 1pm. There will be races for Minor, Juniors Intermediate and Seniors. There will be training on Wed and Fri at 4pm in the Friary for all West Waterford athletes competing in this event.

All Ireland Junior Title for Kate Veale
Kate Veale got her season off to a cracking start last Saturday winning her first individual title when she came home a clear winner in the All Ireland Junior 3000m walk in Nenagh. Kate was content to stay in the group for the first ten laps before taking the lead over the last few laps in a time of 15.17.

On Sunday Kate returned to Nenagh to compete in the AAI games again over 3000m. This was a much faster race and Kate came home the winner in 13.17 taking ten seconds off the national junior record. This is a very impressive performance as Kate will be under age for this event for another two years. On Saturday next Kate will compete in Belfast as part of the Irish under 17 team in the Celtic International. All in West Waterford wish her the best of luck.

Credit Union Awards
The Credit Union Awards night has been fixed for Saturday Feb 20th. West Waterford has four athletes in the final Kate Veale, Thomas Houlihan, Zoe Scanlon and Sinead Flynn. Venue and time to be confirmed.

The juvenile committee would like to extend their sympathies to Zoe Scanlon and her family on the recent passing of her grandmother and to the Walsh family on their recent bereavement.
