Award Winning Weekend for Kate Veale
Last weekend West Waterford athletic club was delighted to see three of its young athletes in the final of the Pat Noctor Awards. Zoe Scanlon and Thomas Houlihan who are both in the top tier nationally in their chosen events the discus and the pole vault were among the twelve young sportsmen and women honoured on the night. Success on the night however belonged to West Waterford’s Kate Veale who was named as the Supreme Young Sportswomen and was presented with the Pat Noctor Memorial Cup. Kate swept the boards nationally and internationally in race walking this year creating many new records on the way and this award was a fitting recognition of her achievements.  Barely had Kate recovered from the celebrations when it was time to head to Tralee for the Munster Athletics Awards where once again Kate was honoured for her race walking feats during the year.  On hand to congratulate Kate and present the award was AAI President Liam Hennessey. On the same night we learned that Kate is to receive the National award later in the year.

Credit Union Awards
The next event on the calendar is the final of the Credit Union awards, which will take place in the Tower Hotel on Saturday Feb. 20th. Four West Waterford athletes Sinead Flynn, Thomas Houlihan, Zoe Scanlon and Kate Veale will be honoured at a function in the presence of their families and club officials. This event, which celebrates the best under age talent in athletics in the county, is always an inspiring event for the athletes and we look forward to hearing from this year’s mystery guest.

Training continues on Wed and Fri at 4pm in St Augustines for all who are competing in the schools events.

The juvenile committee would like to extent their sympathies to Lucy, Eoin and Aidan O’ Brien and their family on the recent death of their grandfather.
