Kate Veale Heads for Moscow
On Wednesday next the Veale family head to Russia where on Saturday Kate will compete in the European trials to select a team for the World Youth Olympics.  This is the first time that a World Youth Olympics is being held. In the past few years we had a European Youth Olympics and both David Mc Carthy and Thomas Houlihan competed as part of an Irish team in this event with David winning a bronze medal. This year there will be no European event instead it will be a trial for a European team. A small group of elite Irish athletes will travel to Moscow on Wednesday among them will be Kate Veale. Kate has dominated walking in both Ireland and Britain in the past two years winning British and Irish titles in both club and schools events. Next Saturday at 3pm Irish time she will move to the next level when she competes against the best in Europe in the 5000m walk in a bid to take one of the six places on the European team for the World Youth Olympics.  All in West Waterford wish Kate the best of luck.
