AMBER PETROLEUM FIT4LIFE LEAGUE

IT’S GETTING CLOSE AT THE TOP!

We’re up to week 6 in this Amber Petroleum Fit4Life Predict Your Time Running League and as always it’s proving to be a most enjoyable experience.  Each Tuesday evening at 7pm in the Friary College grounds each runner aims to enter the finishing tunnel just as the clock reaches zero.  This might sound impossible when you consider runners are taking on the 1, 2, 3 or 4 laps and are running without watches but amazingly each week we see how close people actually get to their predicted time.  This week we had 65 participants and with 37 too fast this left 28 on the right side of the clock.  Of the 65 only 12 were more than a minute outside their time which shows exactly how good everyone is getting as the weeks progress.  We’ve had 18 prize winners to date which means there are 6 more prizes up for grabs over the next 2 Tuesday evenings (10th and 17th) so who knows, maybe you could be one of them!

JOSIE IS JUST ON TIME

This week Josie Harty decided to let her running partners Onra Power and Anna Ballott off as she kept to her own steady pace and was she delighted with this decision as just as she entered the finishing tunnel Tony declared her to be the winner of the Amber Petroleum League for week 6.  John Foley, who had a marvellous outing at the Munster Masters in C.I.T. last Sunday was in the winner’s enclosure once again here as he finished just behind Josie, taking second place just one second slower than his predicted time.  Modeligo man Kevin Walsh must be learning something from Corinna as he too got the pacing almost right finishing in third place also just 1 second out.  James Veale (0.02) must have got some inspiration at the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona as he powered his way home in 4th place but James already has a second place finish in week 4 so he won’t be too disappointed.  Liz Nyhan is another runner who has come close and this week she was just 3 seconds out while Gerry O Connor (0.04) and Regina Cunningham (0.07) will also have to try again next week.

LIAM ALMOST RECORDS A SECOND WIN

Just on the wrong side of the clock this week and almost taking a second win in this year’s league was Liam Sandford who was just 1 second too fast but this earned Liam another 20 points for the Champions League Table which keeps him well in contention for the overall title.  Tom Moroney too was also very close to a win at just 1 second too fast while Jim Fleming (0.02) and Michelle Fitzgerald (0.03) can also count themselves unlucky.  As we said already Anna Ballott (0.03) and Onra Power (0.04) finished strongly and in doing so also wound up on the wrong side of the clock but they were delighted when they took 16 and 15 points respectively for the Champions League Table.

LEAGUE SPONSORS AND PRIZEGIVING

As always we would like to thank Pat and Marion Keane of the Amber Garage on the Youghal Road for their sponsorship of this league.  We encourage our members and league participants to support all our sponsors where possible.  The prize giving for this league will take place in the Ballinameela Community Centre after their 5 Mile Road Race on Friday August 20th.  The race commences at 7.30 and the prizes will be presented after the race at approximately 9pm.

AMBER GARAGE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TABLE

On the Champions League table this week we see that Anna Ballott has taken a 1 point lead over Onra Power while Liam Sandford is certainly not out of contention yet and he maintains a strong challenge taking 20 points again this week jumping from 4th to 3rd spot and is now only 10 points behind Onra.  Paddy Power slips down to 4th place but he too is not out of it on 106 points.  Into the top 5 this week comes Catriona Kiely on 95 points just 1 ahead of Tom Leahy who drops down to 6th place on 94.  Tomás Coleman (94) Josie Harty (93) and Caroline Lenihan (91) are definitely in with a shout too and as an outside bet keep an eye on John Foley on 86 points as he is always one to watch in these Colligan Cup situations.  The top 10 after week 6 is as follows:

NAME   POINTS

1. Anna Ballott  122
2. Onra Power   121
3. Liam Sandford  111
4.Paddy Power  106

ELITE ADVENTURE AND DEVELOPMENT ONE LAP CHALLENGE

This league is ideally suited for beginners who might be a bit intimidated by seeing people running lap after lap of the Friary College and think they may never achieve that level of fitness.  Well in association with Fit 4 Life and kindly sponsored by Jeff Allen of Elite Adventure and Development we have a league for you.  This is a one lap league, so if you walk and jog and walk again then this is where you can meet other people starting on a fitness regime just like you.  So many people are aware of the Winter League and would love to give it a go but feel that they might not be able for it.  Well this is where you can get ready for the Winter League. If you’re still not convinced why not come along and just watch for the first night and join in whenever suits you. The league is also open to regulars who want to see what time they can cover the 1.2-mile course in.  The league will commence on Tuesday September 7 and will run for 5 weeks taking in September 14, 21, 28, and October 5.  The start time for this league will be 7 o’ clock with registration taking place at the van from 6.45 pm onwards.  The entry fee is €2 each night and we will provide water at the finish for all the participants. Please note that you do not have to be a member of the club to take part.

GARVEYS SUPERVALU AUTUMN LEAGUE

The Garvey’s Supervalu Dungarvan Autumn League will commence on Thursday 9th September at 6.30 pm at the Friary College Dungarvan.  It will have an earlier starting time of 6.30 pm.  Registration will commence at 6.15 at the club van.  There will be a choice of 1, 2, 3 or 4 laps of the Friary, with each lap being 1.2 miles. When you find that you are comfortable with doing one lap then you may move onto two laps or you may stay with one lap, the choice is yours.  This league will be held on 5 consecutive Thursday nights, September 9th, 16th 23rd and 30th and October 7th.  Once again we would like to thank Garvey’s Supervalu Dungarvan and Coolagh Road for their continued support and their sponsorship of this league. The entry fee for each night will be the usual €2 per athlete and please note that you don’t have to be a member of the club to come along, all newcomers are most welcome.

FINAL RACE OF GER WYLEY SPORTS/NIKE SUMMER SERIES 2010.

AN TOBAR ARDMORE 5.

The final stage of the summer series is almost upon us with the tenth and final race taking place on Friday night, August 13th ( lucky for all) at 7.30 pm. This race, the 14th annual “An Tobar” Ardmore 5 is very popular and always attracts a large crowd. Some run it to get 6 races completed in total, some to run all ten and many run it to have one last chance of a pb for the summer. The course itself is a very good course which is another reason why we see so many in Ardmore each year and preparations are now underway for the final race of the 2010 summer series. Entries for the race will be taken at the GAA centre in Ardmore and we would like to thank the committee for permitting the use of their facilities once again this year. The entry fee is the usual €8 and the presentation of prizes along with refreshments will take place in “An Tobar”, courtesy of our race sponsor. Along with the prizes for the race, the overall winners of the summer series will also be presented with their awards so a great night is in store for all athletes.

PRIZE CATEGORIES

At West Waterford AC we like to spread around the prizes as much as possible and so this race has a different prize policy to other races. Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female athletes and after that prizes will be awarded to the first male and female athletes in each of the star signs. When registering for the race, all athletes will be asked to declare their star sign and when the results are made out, the first female and male in each of the star signs will get a prize.

SUMMER SERIES VOUCHERS

As Ardmore is the final race in the series, the vouchers for all those that have entered the series will be presented on the night. Vouchers will only be given to those that have entered the series which was separate to the race entries. The deadline for entering the series was the Dromana race and no further entries will be accepted. Anyone who has run any 6 of the ten races will automatically receive a 25 euro voucher and anyone who has run all ten races will receive a 75 euro voucher for their efforts thanks to our very generous sponsors Ger Wyley Sports and Nike Ireland.

WEST WATERFORD AC CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
