Munster Schools Cross Country Championships on Thursday February 9th
On Thursday next West Waterford athletes will help all the local schools in their quest for individual and team success. The first fifteen across the line and the top three teams in each race will qualify for the All Ireland championships which will take place in Galway on Saturday March 10th. The strongest teams from north south and east Munster will compete for these honours,
First in action will be the minor girls and boys teams representing St Augustine’s. They will be followed by the Ardscoil’s junior girl’s team. In the junior boys Eoin O’Brien will represent Blackwater C.C. and Blackwater will also field an inter girls team. In the inter boys Dungarvan C.B.S. will have a very strong team. The Ardscoil will be in action again with a team in the senior girl’s race. In the final race of the day Blackwater senior boys will compete. The best of luck to all from West Waterford competing in these events.
Training will continue for secondary school athletes on Tuesdays and Fridays in the Friary and on Saturday morning in Colligan.
Credit Union Award for Micheal Power
The final credit union for 2012 was announced this weekend and the winner was West Waterford athlete Micheal Power. This was as a result of Micheal’s great run in the All Ireland championships where he finished in 3rd place. Micheal will travel to Waterford on Thursday night to be presented with his award.
Pat Noctor Awards on Friday Night
West Waterford is delighted to have three athletes in the final of the Pat Noctor Award. Lisa Houlihan, Zoe Scanlon and Kate Veale are all honoured with a place in the final twelve.
