West Waterford Athletic Club Juvenile Notes
West Waterford Clubs win East V West Challenge
The second night of the West Waterford v East Cork athletic challenge was held by St Nicholas A.C. in Conna on Tuesday last. Nineteen athletes from West Waterford A.C. travelled to the East Cork venue and teamed up with K.C.K., Blackwater A.C. and Finisk Valley A.C to compete against St Nicholas A.C., St Catherine’s A.C. and Youghal A.C. This week it was middle distance events for all age groups starting with 300m under 9 and working up to 800m under 15. Girls competed in the turbo javelin and shot and the boys in the long jump. This was followed by relays for under 10, 12 and 14.  West Waterford had individual medal winners in Isabelle Gaffney, Cian Qualter, Owen Morrissey, Sarah Gaffney,Glaudia O’Halloran, David Gaffney, Ian Holmes and Angelina Chizhikova all in the middle distance events. Owen Morrissey was our only winner in the jumping events taking the boys under 12 title. All The West Waterford teams were successful in the relays. At the end of the night John McGrath President of Athletics Ireland presented the winning trophy to the teams from West Waterford. It was accepted by KCK as they contributed the most points over the two nights. In October the trophy will come to West Waterford. Well done to all our athletes who competed over the two nights. 
Munster B Championships in Ennis
West Waterford A.C. had just two representatives at the Munster B Championships in Ennis on Sunday, Angelina Chizhikova in the girls under 15 800m and Fionn O’Mhurchú in the under 15 boys long jump and high jump. Fionn competing in his first Munster Championship s finished 4th in the long jump but went on to win the high jump with a clearance of 1m40cms. Angelina finished 5th in the 800m in a time of 2m38.
Aislinn O’Regan wins Shot and Discus
Aislinn O’Regan made a welcome return to competition this weekend travelling to St Abbans track to take part in the Laois Para Games. Aislinn was first up in the shot and put in a good series of throws leaving her best until the last round where she threw over 6mts for the first time to finish on a new personal best of 6m18. In the discus she used the south African turn for the first time in competition. She again put in a good series of throws finishing just 2cms short of 15mts. Aislinn will travel to Derby next weekend to take part in the English Games where she will compete under 18. Best of luck Aislinn.
Flag Day Thurs July 4th and Friday July 5th 
Due to circumstances beyond our control our flag day has been moved to Thursday July 4th and Friday July 5th. Sylvia O’Brien is looking for collectors for both days. We would appreciate the help of parents and all our athletes’ from age 14 up in this collection. Sylvia will be taking names of volunteers on Wed and Fri at training.
All Ireland Championships get underway on Sunday July 7th
The first session of the All Ireland Track and Field Championships will be held in Tullamore on Sunday July 7th. West Waterford A.C. will have three athletets in action that day. Lucy Holmes will compete in the 800m under 18 and will be a strong contender to take the title. Mary Fitzgerald and Saoirse Kelly will be competing in their first All Ireland championships and it is a huge achievement for both girls to qualify for the All Ireland in their first season in athletics.
Mary will compete in the girls under 15 hammer and Saoirse goes in the under 16 triple jump. Best of luck to all three athletes.
All Ireland Championships Day 2 and 3  
Tullamore will again be the venue for Day 2 and 3 of the All Ireland Champinships which will be held on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th of July.
