ALL ROUNDER SPORTS WINTER LEAGUE
The All Rounder Sports winter league for 2010 has yet to get underway as a result of the adverse weather conditions affecting these parts at the moment. It’s the second time in the history of the league that it was cancelled, the first time being due to the flooding at the centre. While many of you may have been disappointed there was also a sigh of relief from all those who might not have done as much training as planned over the Christmas break. It has been four weeks today since the last night of the league and at the time of going to print, we are still unsure whether the league will be going ahead tonight so we ask you all to listen out to WLR today where it will be announced if the league will go ahead or not. Alternatively you may also contact the following committee members for confirmation: Gerry 086 3503571, James 086 8184762, Ann 086 0619711 and Norma 087 9385965. It’s great to see that so many of you have been out training over the last few weeks and even if you haven’t had much opportunity to do so don’t worry, a week or two will see you back at your best. Some of you may be thinking that because you haven’t done much that your times will be way down when the league finally resumes but due to the fact that you had been running consistently for up to 8 weeks before the break you will have built up a steady base of fitness so it really won’t take you that long to reach the stage you were at previously. Some of you may even surprise yourself and be pleasantly surprised with your time. Should the league be cancelled again tonight make sure and get in some training and be ready for next week where it should definitely kick off. For the benefit of you all, we have included everybody’s best time to date in the league. This will give you a time to aim for over the coming weeks and also a target in that everyone of us will be looking to better the time we did in 2009, there’s no better motivation than having a time in mind that you want to beat and it certainly helps spur you on towards that finishing line. Don’t forget your reflective bib and your number and to park only in the designated areas. We would also like to remind all those that have yet to join that you are more than welcome and that it’s not too late to come along and sign up. Should the league go ahead tonight it will start at the usual time of 7.20 with registration from 6.45 onwards. All those that need to be issued with a number are asked to be at the centre before 7 o clock. STARTING TIMES FOR TONIGHT We will be using the same starting times for tonight as we had planned for last week. There will be ten second intervals between each group of runners with the fastest runner going off last. The short time between each group will mean that your finishing position on the night will be your score. If you finish 10th you will get ten points and if you finish 20th you will get 20 points and so on so it really will be a battle to the line. ATHLETES’ FASTEST TIME FOR 2009 (LONG ROUTE) 2. SYMPATHY West Waterford Athletic Club extends sincere sympathy to the Family and friends of Mrs Kathleen Walsh, Killeshil, Cappagh, who passed to her eternal reward last week, Kathleen took up the post of Secretary of West Waterford Athletic Club in the second year of the club’s existence in 1995 and she was instrumental in the growth of the club in those early days. She was a very jovial Lady and was most efficient in her demanding post as club secretary, She will be sadly missed by her family and all her many friends who had the pleasure of knowing her and of course all of us who served on the committee with her plus the wider athletics community. It can certainly be said of Kathleen that her purpose in life was a life of purpose. May she rest in peace. RUNNING QUOTE. Running is my private time, my therapy, my religion.
